DESCRIPTION:This past spring\, 2026\, Mountain View Rotary Club provided a
community grant to Stevens Creek Trail for completion of Phase 2 - Monarch
Waystation (just south of Sleeper Avenue trail entrance). Friday\, Nov. 2
0th\, is an opportunity for Rotarians to join with other Stevens Creek Tra
il volunteers in carrying out of labor to complete this project. As we get
closer to this date\, a sign-up sheet will be circulated at Rotary meetin
gs.  In early 2026\, the City of Mountain View's Trail Maintenance staff
teamed up with an Eagle Scout Service project to expand this native pollin
ator habitat. The project added official Monarch Waystation certification
signage along with plant identification markers so trail users can learn a
bout the native milkweed and nectar-rich plants supporting the monarch lif
e cycle.  To be certified by Monarch Watch\, these dedicated zones along
the trail provide: 1) Host plants: Native milkweed\, which is the only foo
d source for monarch caterpillars. 2) Necar sources: A variety of flowers
that provide energy for adult butterflies. 3) Shelter: Dense vegetation th
at protects the butterflies from predators and harsh weather.
