Mountain View Rotary Club

May 5th, 2015 - Meeting Notes by Scott

President Alan played “Hail To The Chief” music, rang the bell and welcomed all to the Rotary Club of Mountain View – “We’re More Than A Club …We’re a Family!”    He continued:  “Today is May 5th, week #45 of a ‘Club Held Hostage’!”   He reminded us that Rotary International’s Call to Action is: “Rotary Lights Up Lives;” and, our Club’s Call to Action is “Fun Through Service.”

Dave led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Phil led the group in singing a Cinco de Mayo song.   Roger, the "4-fer" for the day, gave a thought and announced he would be donating $500 to the scholarship program.   Roger was thanked for the generous donation and for bringing the chocolate chip cookies!

Introductions:   Twana introduced Steve Ross visiting Rotarian from the Palo Alto University Club, who is also Assistant Governor Elect.   Sanjay introduced his guests:  Vasanth Namasivagam, Oh Tempmon, and Broadie Yazaki.

The following general announcements were made:
  • Scott thanked the recent Rotating Dinner hosts and announced that the price per person for the dinner was $38.
  • Sanjay explained some information at each table regarding some upcoming local events.
  • Bruce reminded club members of the Kick Out scheduled for Friday, June 26th at Michaels Restaurant.  A flyer was available at each table.  Appetizers and a No Host Bar starts at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.  Cost is $55 per person.
  • Heather updated the club on the health of Hal.  He is doing better; is resting at home; and, Heather is scheduling visits by anyone who wants to see him.
  • Date reminder:  Golf Tournament & Party – June 12th.

PROGRAM:   In the absence of Ken, Judy explained to the Club the scholarship program.  Then, presentations were made to the students winning the scholarships:  Jim  introduced Alexandra Zaragoza from Mountain View High School;  Walt introduced Rita Villanueva from Los Altos High School; Bruce introduced Cheryl Ratman from St. Francis High School; and, Judy introduced Amarilis Cruz-Ortega and  Rogelio Marin from Alta Vista High School.

President Alan commended the scholarship recipients for their accomplishments.   He then adjourned the meeting.
