Dr. Briggs spoke of Bouchard making raids along the California coast in the 1780’s, although they were largely unsuccessful. It did demonstrate to Spain though, that it could not defend its settlements in California.
Although during his lifetime, Bouchard received little appreciation for his expeditions, he was eventually recognized by Chile, Peru and Argentina as a Hero of the Seas.
Speaker Appreciation – Cathy informed Dr. Briggs of the Club making a contribution in his name to Rotary’s Polio Plus program.
