Thursday – work project with Bruce

Program –  Bruce will introduce our speaker today, Laura Fay from Los Altos Rotary who will speak about Environmental Advocacy and the action their club is taking.  She had an amusing story of kayaking with Bruce B. who wanted an ice cream and had her, her husband and Suzanne kayak 12 miles to get there.

Laura described some of the activities Los Altos Rotary is doing with their Climate Action Committee whose mission is education about environmental issues.  She said less than 5 % of plastic gets recycled most of it plastic #1 PETE like water bottles.  Some of the activities they are doing include:

  • Uganda Nakivale Refugee
    • Clean Plastic Waste
    • Sewing machines to repurpose plastic bags
  • Lithium-Ion Recycling
  • NexTrex
    • Reduce plastic in land fill by reusing plastic #4 for plastic decking
  • Stemming the use of plastic in Los Altos i.e., no artificial turf
  • Seed Collection
  • Canopy
  • Fine Art in the Park
