Welcome to our meeting of the Mountain View Rotary Club. This year's International Rotary Theme is "The Magic of Rotary." Our local club theme this centennial anniversary year is "Mountain View Rotary: 100 Years of Creating Magic through Service and Fellowship."

Upcoming: Zoe Elizabeth from Silicon Valley Clean Energy will share what SVCE is and how people can take advantage of SVCE's programs in electrifying buildings and transportation. 
 
Club Business/Announcements
  1. Rousing club rendition of Frosty the Snowman led by President Scott
  2. Funding Opportunities: Ukraine generators - Angela last week purchased a generator for $250.  Thanks Angela!  The MV Rotary will match the donation.  Other members are encouraged to donate as well with the possibility of a Club or Endowment match.
  3. District 5170 Ukraine relief project to support generators, link to donate:  https://rotarydistrict5170.org/sitepage/ukraine-relief-project. If you wish to match a challenge presented by our newest member, Angela, please support this cause.
  4. Upcoming Club Dates:
    1. MV Rotary Pickleball “League” – Fridays, 9:30 a.m., Rengstorff Park
    2. Holiday Party  - Last Saturday, December 14th, Vaso Azzurro Restaurant
      1. About 25 people showed up for a fun event.  The Madrigals performed and were well received by the entire restaurant.

    4. Regular Club Luncheon – Tuesday, January 7th
    5. Crab Feed – Saturday, February 8th, 2025
  5. Club Treasurer, Heather, distributed membership invoices for July 1 - December 31, 2024 Rotary year to members in attendance last week. All others are in the mail. Please pay at upcoming meeting or mail a check.   Included will be 10 tickets to sell for the Crab Feed.  If additional tickets are needed, contact Bill. Plus, Bill has plenty event posters to hang around town.  All proceeds after expenses will be given back into the local community through grants.  The focus this year will be Organizational Support for Vulnerable Seniors.
  6. Our International Projects liaison Jack Wong will be discussing our support for a project in Peru at our next meeting.
  7. John Akkaya owner of Don Giovionni's said 1500 people attended his annual free Thanksgiving dinner give away.  He said food ran out at 2:30, the first time ever!

Activities to mitigate the impacts of climate change are key to Silicon Valley Clean Energy.  SVCE is a Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) organization which sources energy for its customers carbon free.  As they are a non-profit, any "profits" the organization raises are pumped back into community programs.  Since their inception:
 
  • $141 million in customer savings (4% customer discount)
  • $129 million to reduce pollution
  • 27% reduction in energy emissions since 2015
They also provide rebates to various energy reduction programs and conversion to electric appliances such as EV, heat pumps, water heaters, etc.

Rotary Club of Mountain View
October 3, 2023
 
Welcome to Rotary Club of Mountain View. President Tori welcomed everyone to the club where: We’re more than a Club… We’re a family!
 
Our international theme for 2023-2024 is “Create Hope in The World”. Our Club's theme is “Help locally and have fun.”  Thank you for joining us today.
 
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Judy Hannemann.
 
Bruce Barsi shared a thought for the day as he welcomed his sixth Grandchild and second Granddaughter into the world, about how precious, exciting, and at times, adventurous life with a Granddaughter can be.
 
General Club Announcements:
 
Save the date of Saturday, December 9th, for the Club’s Holiday Party.  This will be a mandatory event, so plan to attend and enjoy.  More details to follow.
 
The Crab Feed is on for Saturday, February 3rd, at the Buddhist Temple.  We will need all hands on deck for this event and a list of tasks and duties if being prepared for everyone to volunteer.
 
We are starting to plan for our Club’s 100 Anniversary Celebration which will occur next September 13th or 14th.  More details about this event will be shared as they are available.
 
President Tori presented a Blue Badge to Susan Bacchi and an Honorary Badge to Tom Moran.
 
Save The Date of Sunday, November 19th, for Cops and Gobblers.  The event takes place starting at 9:00 am sharp at the Mountain View Police Department, rain or shine

Our speaker was Brad Warren, Blood Services Community Outreach Specialist with the Red Cross, who gave us information about donating blood with the Red Cross. 
 
There is always a tremendous need for Red Cross Services in today’s society.  He told us that there are over 100,000 volunteers for Red Cross programs nationwide.  24,000 families are helped by the Red Cross daily.  This includes 170 families affected by disaster, 12,500 blood donations, 807,000 weather alerts, 1,400 services to military and veterans, and 683,000 child vaccinations.
 
82% of all blood donated comes during blood drives.  Generally, blood drives involve at least forty donors as well as several volunteers from the host organization.  The Red Cross has a mobile unit with several stations that is used for the blood drives.
