Programs
  • Alex Amoroso gave us a summary of his deployment to the Middle East (excluding any classified information) His presentation included a slide set with photos of deployment, barracks in US before departure and those in Kuwait.  Photos showing some fun the troops had with USO and Holiday parties.  Alex was the HR and logistics person for a battalion of approximately 650 troops with very limited support, as all civilian employees had been released. He summed up the experience as “Bad places, good people”.
  • Mckinney-Vento staff from MVLA Alba Garza and from MVWSD Priscila Bogdanic and Eduardo Rios Pacheco. They presented slide presentations on the US federal law passed in 1987 during the “No Child Left Behind” called the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act to support housing insecure students in public education. In 2024-25 MVWSD had 243 of 4644 students qualifying for this program.  Currently MVLA has 93 students in McKinney Vento. Inserted here is Santa Clara County Data.
The slides presentations will be available via the Challenge Team google drive soon.
MVLA has a Boutique where families can get clothes, linens and other items for free. MVWSD has a SPARC center with similar items. There is a give-away day at MVWSD on November 19th. Those wishing to help can contact Priscila at pbogdanic@mvwsd.org
