Meeting Minutes - June 13, 2017

Mountain View Rotary Club

June 13, 2017 – Notes by Bob

Bob - Thought for the Day - Discussed some statistics about D-Day.
Discussed origin of flag day & the school teacher, B. J. Cigrand, known as the father of flag day.

Visiting Rotarian - Steve Ross

Dick discussed why he joined Rotary Asked other members & Alan, Tom, Jim & Steve told their stories.

Tom submitted the list of officers for next year. They were approved with a 100% vote.

President reported that we presently have 29 members of the presidents club.

Our auctions have added over $2,250.00 thus far.

Tom auctioned off two bottles of Champaign today - purchased by Steve Ross for $60.00.

Speaker for today - Mike Toy was named 2015 San Francisco Entertainer of the year in comedy magic. He recently published a book "Its Not Magic: Secrets at Performing Your Best". He graduated from UC Davis and decided he want to start a business. After "two setbacks", he realized there are several important things to being successful:

1. One needs help  - people work with someone they know they can trust.
2. Show interest in others - they will trust you & help you.  Then they will be interested in you.
3. Words matter. How you talk with someone - must not offend - be positive.

Club Announcements:
  • Next Board Meeting is Thursday 6/22, 5 pm at CHAC
  • Jerylann – continued circulating the signup sheet for monthly Speaker Chairs for next year.
  • Kick out at Michaels on June 23 at 6 pm.
  • Tom shared the results of the Future of the Club meeting at his place.  Future  club Presidents (in order) are Bert, Tom, Sanjay, Paul and then maybe it will be Jack’s turn.  Great job!  Another take away was that we are a small club so let’s not bite off more than we can chew.

District Announcements:
  • Jerylann – Polio Flash Campaign.  We ask that every member contribute $26.50 to the End Polio Now campaign.   Why $26.50?  That was the amount of the very first contribution to the Rotary Foundation in 1917.  A district video was also played.
