President Alan welcomed everyone at 12.30 pm at The Adobe Building.
Dick led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Sheila recalled V.E. Day, May 8, war in Europe ended and lights could shine again.
Phil with his daughter, Jodie, called for singing “Take me out to the Ball game”.
Twana welcomed visiting Rotarians, Peter Opa, Cotonou, Benin, Steve Ross, Palo Alto.
Upcoming events include:-
Tuesday, May 26, Rotary meeting will be Social at Cascal, Castro St. 5 pm-7-pm.
Saturday, May 16, 9am -3 pm - East Palo Alto Senior Center, 550 Bell Street, East Palo Alto collecting E-waste, Computers, cell phones etc., clothes, books.
Friday, June 12, Rotary Golf at Shoreline.
Thursday, June 18, Joint Meeting present and incoming Board members 5pm at CHAC.
A sign-up sheet was passed around again for the Kick-out on Friday, June 26.
Ernie Hawks described his recent visits to Rotary friends in London and Malta.
Peter Opa told how he has visited U.S. each year for the last five years to collect books. The books are warehoused and will be sent to West Africa for children learning to read. He appealed for help to cover the cost of shipping the 50,000 books already collected. A collection was made at the meeting.
Anita welcomed representatives of Community service organizations and presented checks for $14,500 from funds raised by our Club at this year’s Crab Feed :-
Community Health Awareness Council, Susan Sweeley - $2,600 for “Prevention Plus”.
Friends of Deer Hollow Farm, David Dung, $500, Field trips for M.V. school children.
Community Services Agency, Maureen Wadiak, $1,625, for seniors at risk of falling.
Hope Services MV. Kevin Phipps, $500 for iPads for MV Adaptive skills training.
Just Read, Judy Hannemann, $2,025 Program support in reading & math in MV schools.
Friends of Stevens Creek Trail, Greg Unangst, $1,000 support the Trailblazer Race.
MV Police Officers Association $2,000 “Cops and Gobblers” holiday dinners delivered.
NetGain MV PAL, Marc Shaw, $500 for middle school student tennis training.
Living Classroom Ellen Gibson, $1,000 to extend the program in MV Whisman District.
Enterprise Leadership Forum, Walt Joyce, $2,000 for support of 3-day event at Asilomar to prepare students for the challenges of starting business.
Day Worker Center, Rosa Revuelta, $1,000 support for computer training and ESL.
