President Sandi opened the meeting with a welcome to the “Best Rotary Club Ever”

 

Sheila Hodgkinson led us in the Pledge to the flag.

 

Judy Hannemann gave us a few thoughts as lessons learned from Noah’s Ark

 

Phil Armi led us in a stirring rendition of God Bless America

 

In the absence of Pres. Elect Anita, President Sandi introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests of Rotary.  

 

Announcements:

          -Sandi presented Steve Nichols with a President’s Club certificate

-She read a Thank You letter from the Mtn. View Police Officers Assn.

-The MVLA Roundtable Scholarship Application is now available.  A link is on our home page.

-Next week is a fundraiser for the Los Altos Aids project.  A screening of “The Other City”, a story of HIV/AIDS in Wash DC.  It will be held at the Los Altos HS theatre 7 – 9:30 $50 general, $25 student.

-Saturday Feb 26th, Women’s Hospital at El Camino Hospital will be holding a Day of Dance. Lectures, screenings, and demos will be held.

-Ski trip is planned for March 24 – 27th.  See Bruce Barsi.

 

 

King Crab, Alan Goodman, reported on our annual fundraiser held last Saturday.  He acknowledged everyone for helping and pitching in.  Special recognition was given to Hiro Karyia for stellar duty – first one there, last one to leave.  It was good to see past member and Past Pres Bob Davila helping at the bar.  Although attendance was down – both dinners served and tickets sold – it looks like we will have net proceeds of about $13,000.  Final figures will be available in a couple of weeks as soon as everyone pays for their tickets.  We had a little bit of wine and beer left so most of it was sold at the meeting - $7/bottle of wine, $1/bottle of beer.

-Today’s birthday boy was Jim Spangler.  Also fined for a birthday in Feb was Chuck Osborn. 

- Bill Maston apologized for not being at the Crab Feed but he was on the tarmac in San Jose.  He was returning from 2.5 weeks in Fiji where they have a great Rotary fundraiser – loose change at the airline gates to leave the country.  (Where else can you use the $?)

 

 

Speaker:  Introduced by Sheila Hodgkinson,

King Lear, member of Los Alto Rotary, Councilman and past Mayor of Los Altos, on the Board of the YMCA, and a Scout leader.  He gave us a history of architect Richard Neutra and the 3 houses he built in Los Altos.  Of the 3 houses, one was moved to City property restored and preserved.  This was done by the Los Altos Community Foundation who now operates it for the city.  The main focus of meetings held there are for Non Profit organizations.  Reservations can be made at the website, www.neutrahouse.org.

 

Next week's meeting will be our annual Speech Contest.  Judy Hannemann is still looking for some volunteers to help.
