Mountain View Rotary Club

Meeting Notes by Paul April 10th, 2018
                                                              
Scott Johnson, Club President, welcomed all in attendance and reminded that “Our Rotary International theme for this year is “Rotary: Making a Difference.”   Our District Governor Orrin Mahoney’s theme is “Developing Lifelong Friendships, While Making a Difference.”  Our Mountain View Rotary Club is “Having Fun Making a Difference.”  
 
Sheila led the Pledge of Allegiance and Phil, 4’fer for the day, gave a thought.  
THE GARDEN
  • In my garden I would first plant five rows of Peas:
    • Preparedness, Promptness, Perseverance, Politeness, Prayer
 
  • Next to them I would plant three rows of Squash:
    • Squash gossip, Squash criticism, Squash indifference
 
  • Then I would put in three rows of Lettuce:
    • Let us be faithful, Let us be loyal, Let us love one another
 
  • No garden is complete without Turnips:
    • Turn up for meetings, Turn up with a smile, Turn up with a new idea, Turn up with determination, Turn up to work
 
Songmaster Phil led a song and Oh What a Beautiful Morning 
 
Announcements:
  • Polio Plus Flash Campaign – $315 raised!
  • Monique presented Bill with a cupcake and awarded him his Paul Harris fellow pin
  • Walt updated us on ELC held at 1440 Multiversity in Scott’s Valley
  • Community Service Announcements --  Dave and Jim
            Tree planting with Canopy, Crittenden School – May 5th at 9am
            Community School of Music and Art ushering needed this weekend
            Stevens Creek Trail Clean up April 22 at 9am
  • Club Service  -- Twana and Tori
            Rotating Dinner, Sat, 4/28 … chaired by Anita
  • President’s Club:   Thanks to all!  We are presently up to 25 members for a total of $3,750.        
  • CSA Empty Bowls Soup Supper, Sunday, April 15th

Program:   Bert and Anne on Surprising Morocco
Interesting program about their trip to Morocco with the Commonwealth Club.  Morocco is a very pleasant place with nice people in an area about the size of California.  Contrary to what most people think, Morocco is not all desert and in fact has mountain ranges just like California.  Morocco and the USA have had the longest country to country relationship as Morocco recognized the USA in 1777.  Morocco was French at one point so the food and bread are excellent.
