Mountain View Rotary Club Meeting Notes- February 7, 2017

 
President Jerylann welcomed everyone at 12.30 pm at The Adobe Building with reminders of this year’s themes.
After the Pledge of allegiance, Sheila spoke of the awfulness of war and the need to make peace.
 
Phil  led us with God Bless America.
 
President Jerylann welcomed visitors including Valerie Thys, our past Exchange Student and Rotary Scholar.
 
 
Dave has scheduled helpers for CSMA in June. Alan reported good attendance at the Crab Feed and promised a more full report next week.
 
We are encouraged to see articles in the Voice and The Town Crier reporting Hope’s Corner plans for $300,000 fund to make a larger kitchen and new showers for the increasing number of homeless and needy people in Mountain View.
 
Three Students were present to compete in the Speech Contest. Sanjay explained the rules and time-keeping by Scott. Each student had 5 minutes choosing their subject and relating it to Rotary.
 
3rd place was Alyssa Sun, a junior from Los Altos High School.
2nd was Stephen Lee, King’s Academy home schooling.
1st was Sophia Hwang, junior from Los Altos High School.
 
 
 
Next Board Meeting will be Feb 16 at 5 pm at CHAC.
 
District Conference, May 6-7 in Santa Cruz.
 
Next meeting, Tuesday, Feb 14, the speaker will be Seth Shostak PhD. To talk about the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
