Meeting Minutes – May 15, 2018

1.President Elect’s Greeting

President Scott Johnson welcomed everyone and talked about this year’s Rotary International theme, Rotary: Making a Difference, noting that today’s presentation of grant awards recognizes local organizations that are truly making a difference.

2. Pledge of Allegiance - Twana Karney led us in the pledge.

3. Thought for the Day:  Hal Taylor shared some interesting facts and insights about Flag Day, coming up on June 14^th. Hal served as greeter for the meeting and brought in scrumptious home-baked brownies!

4. Visiting Rotarian – President-elect Bert Raphael introduced Ramesh Sabnis from Kalyan India, District 3142.

5. Upcoming Events:

• May 22^nd Meeting – Jack Wong will present on Market Update and Warriors Update; Fred is the 4-fer.
• May 29^th Evening Social at Kathleen and Alan Goodman’s home
• June 15^th Golf Tourney
• June 22^nd Kick-Out – please sign up and indicate your meal preference.

6. August Speakers: 2019-20 President-elect Tom Myers offered to take a club member out to lunch if s/he signs up to coordinate the August meetings.

7. Community Grant Awards: Anita Grossman distributed the community grants as follows:

• Mountain View Police Officers’ Association - $2,000 for Cops & Gobblers to underwrite food baskets for low-income families during the holidays.
• Friends of the Stevens Creek Trail - $1,000 for the September 30th Trailblazer Race & Trail Walk.
• JustREAD - $2,250 for expansion of the JustREAD and JustMATH in-school tutoring programs to Castro, Monta Loma and Theuerkauf elementary schools
• Living Classroom - $1,500 to develop and lead three new fun and healthful “extension” activities for students in K-4^th grades, local elementary schools
• Hope’s Corner - $1,700 for the hot shower and laundry program complementing the organization’s Saturday morning hot breakfast program
• CHAC - $2,250 for the agency’s social emotional learning program, Just for Kids, for third graders in the Mountain View – Whisman School District. The program teaches third graders healthy coping skills over 8 weeks in small group settings at eight local schools.
• CSA - $1,700 to provide direct financial rental and/or utility assistance to low-income individuals and families served through the agency’s Homeless Prevention Services Program.
• Day Worker Center of Mountain View - $1,300 to purchase bus tokens for Day Workers so they can commute from their homes to the Center where they have access to resources and potential jobs.
