President’s Greeting by Heather: Good Afternoon & welcome to the Rotary Club of Mountain View where: We’re More Than A Club…We’re a Family!!!
Our International call to action for 2021-2022 is “Serve to Change Lives”. Our club’s call to action is “As a Family We Serve to Change Lives”.

Introduction of Visitors: Sanjay/Heather
Special Guests: 1. Wyatt is the Interact Area 13 Director and he is a Junior at Gunn HS in Palo Alto, who has a goal this year of building a new bridge for Interact members to become better acquainted with their Rotarians, and vice versa. Wyatt shared a bit about Interact and Area 13 and some upcoming activities and projects they are planning. He got to name the mascot for his year as Area 13 Director and it is the Chocolate Chip Chinchillas! He also said his grandmother was the first woman Rotary president of the Orinda Rotary Club.

2. Adrianna joined us as a recent RYLA Camper, she is a senior at SFHS and Heather asked for her to share leadership skills and excitement from Camp RYLA this past June. She shared her recent RYLA experience and their camp project the Terra Cotta Tote Bags. She wants to be co-captain for varsity field team this year and will major in nutritional studies at Montana State University.
3. Avi shared his insights via email about Camp RYLA: “The Rotary Club's "Camp RYLA" experience was a truly inspiring event in which I was very fortunate to attend. The days of camp were spent learning about how to refine our leadership skills in order to specifically answer the question, what does it mean to lead with LUV? Through the days of camp and learning from the personal experiences of others and partaking in very informative activities, I was able to reach an answer. On the final day of camp, during my presentation, I personally concluded that "Leading with LUV" was to lead with solidarity in mind. To me, this meant leading a diverse group of individuals in order to solve a problem. It was personally fulfilling to find an answer that fit me and my goals of a diverse future of problem-solving. Along with this, hearing everyone else's personal conclusions to this introduced me to a wide range of topics on leadership making me cherish the learning experience. I was fortunate to receive at camp RYLA.”

- August is membership month so I challenge you to share Rotary with friends and neighbors and bring guest to an upcoming meeting. RI President Shekhar Mehta challenges us “Each One, Bring One” to share Rotary with all!

District Announcements: October 2nd is Avenues of Service
SPEAKER: Due to an unforeseen circumstance, our speaker had to cancel. Tom Myers accepted the opportunity to share his insights about our community during these times. Tom indicated that at Community Services Agency (CSA) they added 1400 new families during COVID. They also now have over 700 unhoused clients they support. CSA has given out $5 million dollars in rent relief in the community and expects to give out $1 million in direct aid to clients in the next few weeks.
Tom shared that 15 other community based groups stepped up during the pandemic to provide much needed food in the community. Big thanks! Tip – food drives are great to get people involved. Cash can go further as CSA can get food at substantial discount. And, all the volunteers during COVID are HEROES!
CSA has a program coming up for the unhoused – Treat Your Self. They are looking for the following:
*new/unused clothing for men, women, sizes small to 2XL;
*new/unused clothing for children ages 5-13;
*new/unused shoes and accessories;
*travel size hygiene products; and
*Target and Walmart gift cards in increments of $10
Donations to be dropped off at CSA by September 15th.

Mark your Calendars: August meetings will be virtual. Next week August 17th, North Silicon Valley Chapter Citizens' Climate Lobby will join us to share about carbon fee and dividend. Mandy is our 4fer.
