Meeting Records
- Opening and Announcements: Meeting began with greetings, Pledge of Allegiance, and lunch discussion. Announcements included reminders about the day's theme (creating plastic impact out of rotary), upcoming events, and service projects. Thought of the day from Michael: If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing, if you want happiness for a lifetime, serve someone else.
- Club fundraising; $150.00 donation to join with the objective of all Mountain View Rotarians joining (Tom, Juday, Sanjay, and Kathy committed during the meeting). Also, there is a dollar match (up to $100) for international donations.
- Service Project Recap: Recap of recent service project at CSA, including cleaning food crates, raising $1,800 for food, and appreciation from CSA's executive director for the club's support.
- Upcoming Events: Discussion of upcoming Art and Wine Festival service project, social gathering on Castro Street, and meeting schedule changes due to Labor Day. There will be a chamber mixer on August 25, 5pm at Scratch and it’s National Ice Cream Pie Day today.
- Grant Recipient Presentations - Friends of Stevens Creek Trail: Jim Myerson and Raji Matsura presented on a Rotary-funded project to improve a section of the Stevens Creek Trail, focusing on expanding a monarch butterfly way station and planting native species. Volunteer work day scheduled for November 20th.
- Grant Recipient Presentations - Canopy: JP Reneau described Canopy's urban forestry work, emphasizing community involvement in tree planting and care. Rotary's grant will help expand youth engagement and plant 300 trees in the next season.
- Grant Recipient Presentations - Repair Cafe: Maya and Greg Coladonato shared the history and growth of Repair Cafe, which helps community members repair items and reduce landfill waste. Rotary's grant funded a new digital check-in and ticketing system to support more events and volunteers.
- Guest Speaker - Dr. Gregory Dab (Chiropractic): Dr. Dab discussed the history, science, and art of chiropractic care, its evolution, and its role in community service. He shared personal stories and answered questions about chiropractic versus physical therapy and his international service experiences.
- Closing and Next Steps: Thanks to all grant recipients and volunteers. Reminders about upcoming meetings, service projects, and the need for volunteers. Meeting adjourned.
