Meeting Notes – December 4, 2018
                                                              
President’s Greeting - Bert called the meeting to order at 12:34 and reminded everyone of Rotary International’s theme, Be the Inspiration and our club’s theme, “Have Fun Being the Inspiration.”
 
Pledge of Allegiance - Jack led us in the pledge.
 
Thought for the Day:  Anita shared some inspirational quotes from the late George H.W. Bush
 
Song – Phil led us in a spirited rendition of “Jingle Bells.”
 
Visiting Rotarians and Guests – President-elect Tom introduced Bill from Pittsburgh who is in town visiting his son. Visiting guests included Leslie, a friend of the speaker, and Nirvana., who is looking at club membership.
 
Announcements etc.
Frank and Ernie were celebrated as new honorary members of the club.
Bob is the newest member of the Presidents’ Club.
The Holiday Party is next Tuesday, December 11th at Giovanni’s. The event starts at 6:00PM.
We will be “dark” through the end of December. Our next lunch meeting is on January 8, 2019.
Rotary International is offering a $30K Year Abroad Scholarship for recent college graduates.
We still need a speaker chair for March; see Tom if you are interested.
Dave still has volunteer slots for the CSMA concert series; thank you to Twana for representing the club this past weekend.
Judy and Monique are celebrating birthdays this week; former Rotary International President Matt C., an honorary member of our club, turns 95 on December 28th.
 
Vocational Talk: Jim Cochran shared highlights from his professional experience as an industrial engineer, facilities manager for two local companies and health/safety/environmental consultant. During his tenure on the MV City Council, the city build the new town hall, revitalized the downtown area and brought the light rail to Mountain View. Jim currently volunteers at the Veterans Administration which he described as “very pleasant and you get paid with a smile.”
 
Speaker: Relationship Marketing expert Sue Brooks provided some great tips for building a business/customer base by going back to the basics of relationship building. “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” Her website is https://suebrooke.com.
