President Sanjay Dave’s Greeting:  Good Afternoon and welcome to the Rotary Club of Mountain View where: We’re More Than A Club…We’re a Family!!! 

Our International call to action for 2022-2023 is “Imagine Rotary.”  Our club’s call to action is “Imagine Mountain View Rotary.”

Greeter & Thought for the Day: Bruce Barsi offered a few quotes about New Year’s Resolutions.
 
Introduction of Visitors:  Tori introduced our guest from the Mountain View Los Altos High School District and we welcomed our Honorary Member Gunther Wobser visiting from Germany.
 
General Club Announcements:
  • President Sanjay welcomed everyone back after our long break over the Holidays
  • We have two new Honorary Members of the Club, Phil Armi and Alan Goodman
  • We have been contacted Bjoern Eskofier who is a member of the Erlangen-Schloss Rotary Club of District 1880 in Germany.  He is looking for a home to rent in the area with his wife and four children (ages 2-9) while he serves as a professor at Stanford in Machine Learning and Analytics.  Contact Sanjay if you know of anything available.
  • The Rotary Crab Feed is on Saturday, February 4th at the Buddhist Temple.  Tickets have been distributed to all members and please turn your payment into Heather or Bruce when you check in.  Members are asked to purchase or sell at least ten tickets each to the Crab Feed.  Volunteers are needed for various assignments and a sign-up sheet was circulated during the meeting.
  • Paul Harris Fellow pins were presented to the following members:
    • Jim Cunningham with two red stones
    • Jack Wong with three red stones
    • Scott Johnson with one blue stone
    • Sheila Hodgkinson with one red stone will receive her pin at a future meeting
  • Scott updated us on our Youth Service work
    • The annual Speech Contest will take place at our meeting on March 21st.  Volunteer judges and a timer are needed.
    • We are sending two students to ELC with Walt coordinating
    • We will be selecting two students to attend RYLA and volunteers are needed to conduct interviews
    • We are hoping to inspire interest in an Interact Club and MVHS and SFHS
 
Miscellaneous Announcements:
  • Bert informed us that Ann and he will be performing with their Fiddlers’ Group at the MV Farmers’ Market this coming Sunday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
 
SPEAKER:
 
Nellie introduced our speaker, Amber Woodward, who is the Career Technical Education Specialist for the Mountain View Los Altos High School District.  Ms. Woodward provided an excellent presentation about the District’s program and its potential for enhanced educational opportunities for students.
 
Mark your Calendars:  Our Next Meeting will be on January 17th at Don Giovanni’s. Our speaker is Stacy Cross, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte.
