Rotary Club of Mountain View
Meeting Bulletin for July 11, 2023
President Tori kicked off her first meeting with a greeting: Good Afternoon and welcome to the Rotary Club of Mountain View where: We’re more than a Club… We’re a family!
Our international theme for 2023-2024 is “Create Hope in The World”. Our Clubs theme is “Help locally and have fun”. Thank you for joining us today.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Susan.
Roger greeted us and his thought of the day is his excitement that plans are being made for his class 56th reunion. It was 55 years ago he came to America and is so grateful for the opportunities he has had and for our club.
Introduction of visitors: the club welcomed Tom, Judy’s other half; Lyn, Susan’s daughter and Assistant Governor Area 9 Harry Price.
General Club Announcements:
- Tori thanked Heather for all her efforts for a wonderful event at Toyon Farms for Sanjay’s kick out. It was a team effort and many thanks to all who stepped up to make it beautiful and fun!
- Our July social is on July 25th. Susan, our new social Director will share the venue and time with us next week.
President Tori shared her outlook for Rotary Year 23-24 with a few challenges to all members:
*Encourages members to join every Tuesday for a yummy 3 course meal and so we continue to attract great speakers.
*Part of the benefit of Rotary is the opportunity to make new friends and become something bigger than ourselves. Invite your friends, neighbors, and colleagues so they can grow more friendships.
*Rotary Ducks were handed out to be placed in a prominent location at your work or home. Your Duck gives you the opportunity to share Rotary with others. When someone asks, what’s up with the Duck” you can proudly share that you’re a member of Rotary and invite them to attend our weekly meeting or next social. There are many ducks so members are welcome to adopt additional ducks to share.
*New 3fer opportunity to invite more fun and engagement: 1) option of sharing either a “Thought of the Day”, or a “Joke of the day”, the cornier the better. 2) Share a favorite moment or thought on how you think Rotary does, or can, affect your life and lives of those around you.
*Tori ended with “You are someone special, You are a Rotarian”!
Member share:
*Scott shared details about the Youth Programs committee, Scott and Sanjay seek other members to assist with our key programs: RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award), ELC (Enterprise Leadership Conference), speech contest and Interact liaisons. Experiences were shared by several how these programs have influenced youth in our community, most recently Walt’s grandson and Sanjay’s son. Walt and Judy attended RYLA BBQ and were inspired by our young leaders!
*Susan to lead ‘fun’ auctions at upcoming meetings and seek support. If you have an item at home that needs a new home or fresh flowers/fruit/garden items to share with others, bring to a meeting to auction off to raise funds for the club. Funding opportunities to be reviewed by board and seek member input.
*President club was kicked off with Judy and Scott as first contributors. To be part the donation is $150, $50 remains in the club and $100 to endowment to sponsor scholarship program.
*Heather, Treasurer, reminds all that dues invoices sent via email in June for second half of last Rotary year. This Rotary year dues to be sent in September. If you didn’t receive an email, contact Heather to mail you a paper invoice. Kudos to many who have sent checks to PO Box or PayPal!
Lastly, Board to meet Thursday, July 20th at 5pm at Tori’s office.
Meeting adjourned. Make the week an awesome one!
