1. Scott Johnson opened the meeting at noon.
2. Linda Wang shared the thought of the day.
3. Cathy introduced our guest, Steve Vidibor, retired Mountain View resident who came to learn more about Rotary.
4. Scott announced upcoming key dates (see calendar) and reminded members the 100th Anniversary is on September 13th and, since our Club began 1924, attendees are encouraged to dress in a ‘Roaring Twenties’ theme. He also mentioned District events. On August 11th a District Fellowship gathering at the Santa Cruz Shakespeare Festival is planned; January 24-25 Rotary International will hold a Peace Conference in Rohnert Park. Details about these events are on the District website.
5. Anita, the Club’s Service Chair, passed around a form asking members to sign up to sponsor a monthly social event or host an event at their home.
6. Scott shared the story of the origin of this year’s theme, The Magic of Rotary.
7. Cathy announced that next Tuesday’s speaker will be Even Low, candidate for the 16th Congressional District, (the seat formerly held by Anne Eshoo). She noted she is working with Sam Liccardo’s staff to schedule his appearance in the next few months.
8. Cathy introduced our speaker, Sara Fashandi, author of “Message in a Matchbox”.
9. Sara gave a great speech about her book. It was an inspiring story. She also handed out nice cotton tote bags to attendees that a friend had made to promote her book. Sara concluded her presentation noting that she donates all proceeds from the sale of her book to programs helping disadvantaged children.
