Our International call to action for 2015-2016 is to “Be a Gift to the World”

Our club’s call to action this year is “Being the Best We Can Be.”  Thank you all for joining us today.

Introduction of Visitors:  Jerylann Mateo:  Mike Fishetti and Betsy McGuire visited our club.
 
End Polio Now Initiative:  Twana: We have completed our March drive to support Polio Plus – I’m very proud to say that as a club, we have donated a total of $ 1,946 which will be matched 2 for 1 by the Gates Foundation. With the match, the amount our club will effectively be donating to End Polio Now is $6,000. Thank you, MV Rotary!
 
           
General Club Announcements:
 
  • Thanks to Ernie Hawks for providing dessert today.
 
  • Twana: Sheila, Judy and I participated in the tour of the MayView Clinic. As you know, the patients from the closed RotaCare are being transitioned to the MayView Clinic. Instead of being free, it is a sliding scale clinic for payment starting at $20 per visit, but no one is turned away.
 
  • Scott: Community Service for April: Steven’s Creek Trail Cleanup on Sat., April 16 from 9 am to 12pm meeting at Whisman Park, 310 Easy Street. Sign up sheet will be coming.
 
  • Bruce: Rotating Dinner is set for Saturday, May 7th. Save the Date.  Also everyone had a good time on the ski trip.
 
  • Sanjay: New Volunteer Opportunity with Hope’s Corner delivering food on Saturday mornings.
 
  • Twana: Sign up sheet going around for an extra community service work opportunity in April to help Hope’s Corner place a new floor. This is not part of our monthly community project but is an extra one. Sign up to help on April 22, 23 or 24th. I’ve asked the
 
  • Tom: Evening Social, Next Week!!: Tuesday, March 29th is our Evening Social at Tom Myer’s and Hart’s House on March 29th.  Sign Up Sheet to come! $15 per person.  If your birthday is in March, you get in for free. Bali Hai is the theme and grass skirts are optional.
 
  • Alan: Kick Out Dinner:  Save the date, Friday, June 24th
 
  • Twana Next Board Meeting Thursday: – April 21st 5:00 pm at CHAC.
 
  • Mike Fishetti from Hope’s Corner thanked us for the $1,000 our club donated and how the meals they prepared only cost $2.62 so we provided hundreds of meals to our community.  He also said homeless kids sleeping in cars have become a big problem in MV. 
 
  • Phil let the club know Dennis Kobza is now home from the hospital and is recovering. 
 
 
District Announcements:
 
Rotary U (District Assembly): Jerylann: Thursday, March 24th at the India Community Center. Club pays for your attendance at this event which includes dinner. This is an educational event.  All new members, officers and committee chairs are encouraged to attend. Sign Up Sheet is being passed around. The dinner speaker will be Fred Marx, an Oscar and Emmy nominated director and writer of the film “Hoop Dreams.”
 
District Conference: We will have a table for our Club at the District Conference on Saturday night, April 30th. If you are interested in attending, please sign up. Dinner is $75. There will be a talent show and Cliff Dockerman speaking that evening.
 
 
Personal Sharing: If you share news with us and donate, those donations go to the Endowment and are used to generate scholarships for worthy local students.
  • Dick let the club know he had a great trip to Australia and to donate $38 to the President’s fund for the 38 years he has been part of Rotary.
 
  • Heather said she had a great time on the ski trip and donated $20 to the Endowment Fund.
 
 
SPEAKER INTRO:  Tori introduced today’s speaker, Dr. Fabienne Slama, and the title of her talk is FabYOUlicious. She is a life coach, hypnotist and the author of a book.
