Meeting Notes
May 12, 2020
Hi Everyone. Hope you are all doing okay and keeping busy. Thank you to everyone who is sharing your stories and I hope to hear from everyone in the weeks to come.
Here’s our news for this week:
Rotary News
President Tom welcomed everyone to our second virtual meeting using Zoom today. We had sixteen members attending the meeting.
Our next virtual Zoom meeting will be in two weeks on Tuesday, May 26th, at 12:15 pm. Mountain View Mayor Margaret Abe Koga will be our speaker for that meeting. If anyone is having problems joining our virtual meetings and needs assistance, please contact Anita.
Past President Bert is looking for any suggestions for President Tom’s Kick Out this year. Mandy suggested a Virtual Happy Hour in the short term with another more formal event once the health restrictions are lifted. Please contact Bert with your thoughts on this.
If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Tom or one of the Board Members know. We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.
Personal News
This is an opportunity for us to share whatever information we would like so we can keep up with what everyone is doing these days.
Scott – An interesting place nearby to visit, on bikes or otherwise. Joan and I enjoyed visiting the Shorebird Egret Rookery, some trees along the road by Google buildings: end of Shorebird Way off North Shoreline. What a sight, and they are noisy!
Ken – Thought: Quarantine has turned us into dogs. We roam the house all day looking for food. We are told “no” if we get too close to strangers. And we get really excited about car rides.
I took a few notes on what folks shared during our round robin session at today’s meeting:
Anita – Busy preparing grant proposals for CSA and she is very thankful for our most generous community. She is starting on next year’s budget process for CSA which will be quite interesting. And she is looking forward to her boyfriend Mitch’s return to California on June 2nd.
Mandy – She enjoyed her Mother’s Day with her children and she is trying to stay positive and help out others when she can. She is exercising more with a forty-five minute run first thing every morning.
Bert – Bert and Ann moved into the Sunnyview Retirement Community just a few days before the shelter in place order went into effect. There have been no COVID cases among the 200 people in that community. Bert allows his dog to take him for about a mile walk every day.
Paul – Paul’s daughter is moving out this weekend and they are preparing for that. He has been tutoring an AVID student at Mountain View HS. His student is finding it tough to get ready for college during this challenging time. As our President Elect, Paul is also navigating through the surge of District emails and he attended a virtual training last week that stressed the importance of increasing our membership.
Bruce – Spent the meeting poolside in his Son’s backyard while helping with Grandchild care. It’s tough duty, but someone has to do it… Suzanne and he are continuing their bicycle rides preparing for a ride around Lake Tahoe later in the year. Hoping folks from the Club will join the ride!
Cathy – Cathy welcomed us to her kitchen. She has been working in her garden and ventured to Southwinds Nursery recently for plants. She has been having Cocktails In The Carport with some of her nearby neighbors and hopes to continue the visits in backyards when the restrictions are lifted. She sends her love to all and is happy to be connected to everyone.
Alan – AMG has been on the quiet side and Alan tries to be out of bed by 10 am so he doesn’t end up taking a nap too late in the day. He recently finished his second novel and it is getting early rave reviews from the publisher.
Jack – Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. He, Haydee and the girls spent the day delivering care packages to their Mothers on Sunday. The girls are busy with their school work for a few more weeks. Jack is also busy with work and sees a light at the end of the tunnel, although he expects ups and downs until we get there.
Hal – He has been working out on walks with his dog Cody. He just finished a puzzle with 1,500 pieces that took him almost five weeks. Now he is tying flies in anticipation of the upcoming fishing season.
Steve – Spent the last three and a half months on Kauai. He attended a conference and joined a golf club while he was there. Since he has been back, he has been hiking in the Stevens Creek area and he is now playing golf again while following the course’s social distancing protocol.
Jim Cunningham – Been busy gardening and playing tennis. They also had a BYOE (Bring Your Own Everything) gathering in their backyard that worked out very well.
Sanjay – Missing everyone! Catching up on his reading. The family is good and they are trying out three or four new recipes every week. He has been working from home, but expects to go back to work June 1st, where he will alternate weeks working in the office and at home. At the MVLAUHS District, they are working to develop protocols if distance learning continues in the fall.
Roger – Spoke to Ernie and he is in good spirits and really enjoys hearing from friends. Roger played nine holes at Shoreline Golf Course and said it took almost three hours because people had to tee off one at a time. He said the parking lot at Shoreline was full though.
Tori – Busy at work. And she has enjoyed walking her pig on the beach when there haven’t been many people around.
Tom – Tom and Hart have been visiting Tom’s Parents who open their garage door so everyone can keep the proper distance apart. They are starting a remodel of their home in a few weeks and they will be temporarily staying at an apartment in Palo Alto for a few months while the work is being done.
Twana – Twana and Bruce are doing good. Twana is working at home and she is sharing their home office with Bruce. Their outside patio is all put together and they have been enjoying their time there. Her niece is having a baby on June 4th and her God Daughter is graduating from high school in San Jose which they will watch via live stream from home.
