Meeting Notes – by Bert

SPEAKER INTRO: We had an exciting program: …Ken introduced Congresswoman Anna Eshoo.

Ms. Eshoo is a former resident of Mountain View who has served in congress since 1993. Her interesting presentation focused on health issues and innovation. She pointed out that Social Security took many decades to “fine tune”, once the first version was implemented in the 1930s. Similarly, the Affordable Care Act is the first successful implementation of a national health system and has made major accomplishments (such as removal of life-time caps, pre-existing condition exclusions, and sex discrimination), but we should expect it to be tuned by future administrations. We need to invest more in innovation and we need more research to overcome disease.
She said “I’ve witnessed the destruction of the Republican Party”. She lamented the apparent lose of the ability of party leaders to work together across the aisle. “John Boehner did not deserve to be removed.” She also emphasized the need for more investment in infrastructure.

Next Week:
Our next meeting here will be Tuesday, October 25th and our District Governor Jeff Orth will be here.
