Introduction of VISITING  ROTARIANS  by Tom Myers - no visitors today

           

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

Phil announced a Rotary song writing contest - write a song about peace and send it to Phil if you would like to participate.

 

Ken Schwaderer urged all members to bring at least 3 friends to visit the club over the rest of the year.  If just one of those three join our club, we'll double our membership.  Invite them to the crab feed too!

 

Chuck has been talking to Bill Field and he is back at home.

                            

Sandi shared an update on Crab Feed preparations.  Checks for tickets need to be turned in by next week, but please let David Tran know how many tickets you have sold by Friday, 1/30 at the latest.

 

Jim Cochran presented a Paul Harris pin to Jim Spangler for his contributions to the Rotary Foundation.

Chuck shared the story behind his fantastic crab hat and urged everyone to sell their tickets.

 

Dave Cole became the 20th member of the President's Club, and shared a recent health scare that was spotted by Dr. Steve Nichols on the golf course.

 

MOMENT OF SILENCE:

Bert Raphael shared information about a tragic event that occurred in the Rotary Youth Exchange program in Portland, where two youth exchange members were shot and killed and five injured at a dance.  We shared a moment of silence in memory of the young people involved.

OUR SPEAKER:

 

Kim Castro introduced EILEEN ROSS, who talked to us about the Community Health Awareness Council OUTLET program.

Since 1997 , thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth living in the Bay Area have come to Outlet for support, community, and opportunities to improve the world. As the Peninsula's only organization for LGBTQQ teens, Outlet is working hard to support and empower local youth by providing counseling & community, leadership training & advocacy, and outreach awareness.
