Club Announcements:

- Kim and her family welcomed their newest addition – Abigail Marie – born August 8 at 11:45, weighing in at 8 ½ pounds and 20 inches long. Big sister Christina is showering her baby sister with kisses and lots of hugs, and everyone is happy and healthy. Visitors are welcome, but please call first.

- More good news: Our own Judy Hannemann will be honored as one of CSA’s 2011 Hometown Heroes on Friday, September 16 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Palo Alto. We’d like to put a table together to show our support.

- We also have an invitation to the El Camino Hospital Foundation’s Golf Tournament on Monday, October 24 at The Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay.

- We received a nice email from Urvashi Malhotra, the RYLA camper from St. Francis High School who joined us last week. “I had a wonderful time getting to meet all the kind people in your club and sharing my experiences at RYLA. I event got a chance to speak with Mr. Ligtenberg about his Solar Initiative and will try to get him to give his presentation to St. Francis in the near future.”

- Interact Director Erika Cagampan, a student from Gunn High School, also expressed her appreciation for the club’s generosity in underwriting game tickets for Rotary Family Day at the A’s over the weekend. Individual club members donated $150 toward tickets.

- August is Rotary Membership. We have some very interesting speakers scheduled for the next few weeks and through September so if there are prospective members that you would like to bring to a meeting, this would be great time to do so. Also, our next Fellowship Meeting at Savvy Cellars is on Tuesday 5:30 PM September 27^th,which also is a good time to introduce people to the Club.

- Tim Young, our outgoing exchange student, just returned from Germany. He will join us next week to share some highlights of his trip. Our incoming student, Rafael Hermosilla Casado from Spain, along with his host parents – the Andersons of Los Altos - will be joining us at our August 30^th Fellowship meeting at Savvy Cellars.

- CHAC Fundraiser

- Jim needs us to sign up to volunteer to deliver food to Rotocare if you haven’t already.

Speaker Intro - Duncan MacVicar “Invisible Wounds of War” Gave us some startling statistics of the problems with our returning military. Since the US Civil War, soldiers have shown signs of what is now called Post Traumatic Stress Order, previously Shell Shock for WW II returnees.

Duncan is legislating to put Veterans Treatment Courts throughout California to deal with the mental issues facing these veterans. What can we do?

· Tell your friends about the problem

· Volunteer at Veterans Hospital

· Interview and listen to stories of these veterans

· Refer a veteran to the potential free medical treatment available

· Work pro-bono at the existing Veterans Treatment Courts

Our speaker for next week is April Kyle who will present on The Internet for Real People: Using the Web to Stay Connected, Informed and Inspired.
