Club Announcements:
Celebration of Leaders: the group in the back had the most fun and won a few lucky prizes while honoring Chuck Osborn. Chuck is highly regarded by many and a few statements are:
“Chuck is the backbone of MV Rotary”
“Chuck is a role model and a guiding light”
Board meeting last week it was discussed: 1) starting a Rotary Education Program. One speaker a month will be dedicated to a Rotary program. Let Anita know what Rotary topics you would like to learn more about and she will arrange speakers. 2) Updated bylaws were passed and Chuck will provide copies to all members.
Crab Feed – Alan Goodman has passed around the sign up for all hands on deck, January 29th. A count of the number of tickets sold is needed at next week’s meeting. Ticket sales money should be given to Alan at next week’s meeting also. Alan will communicate details about stations via email.
Alicia Crank still needs raffle items for the crab feed. Reminder, donation of services is welcomed!
Bruce Barsi has graciously invited the club to his cabin in Tahoe on March 24-28 for skiing & winter fun. Please see Bruce and sign up if you are interested as currently his cabin has room for 12-16 guests and also able to rest neighbor's cabin if large interest.
Polio Immunization Trip -
Area Governor Ginny Lear is collecting this month's 100th issue of the Rotarian magazine to give to new members. Please bring them to our meeting when you are finished reading and Sandi to get them to her.

Tom Myers presented the Board nominations for 2011-2012: President - Anita Grossman; President Elect - Judy Hannemann; Others: Fred Storek - Treasurer, Monique Kane, Gerry Felix, Jerylann Mataeo, Jim Spangler, Walt Joyce, and Chuck Osborn - Secretary. Voting will take place Jan 25th.
Alan Goodman was nominated to be Crab Feed Chair again next year and Alan accepted. It was seconded and the Club approved, Congratulations and Thank You Alan!
Fine Master – Judy Hannemann fined five members $10 to share, “Why they joined MV Rotary”? Phil joined 40 years ago as all prominent business persons were Rotarians. Walt joined in 1976 as you had to chose a club where you lived or worked. Jim C joined as a friend noted he should be in a service club if he wanted to be part of politics. Jerylann met Sandi a year ago and was impressed with the club’s local activities, plus she is a native from MV. Jenny enjoys networking with the community. Heather works in MV and her boss wouldn’t let her meet the
Speaker – Dr. Seth Shostak from SETI Institute, "Looking for life in Space"
Why Aliens Exist was the thought Dr. Shostak shared with the group. He stated there is not evidence today that aliens exist, but he is confident his team will find life. The systems used to listen for signals is advancing at top rates like other technology. He believes the type of life they will find is Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Shostak provided many laughs and refreshed the Club on high school biology.
