Our call to action for 2012 -20132 is “PEACE THROUGH SERVICE.” Our local focus – both District 5170 and Mountain View Rotary is “Mission Membership!”

Greeter and Thought for the Day was Jim Cunningham.
Phil Armi led us in a rousing rendition of “Oh What a Beautiful Morning.”
President Judy called on Hal Taylor who introduced visiting Rotarian from San Francisco Geanette, a lawyer living in Sunnyvale. Alan Goodman introduced a business associate.
Paul Reinhart was inducted into membership of our Rotary club. His sponsor Gerylann Mateo did the honors of pining on his Red Badge.
Announcements:
Alan Goodman, chair of our Crab Feed on Saturday Jan 26th, asked all to give him the number of people they expected to eat as well as collecting money for tickets sold. He also passed around a sign up sheet calling for all hands on deck for the day. There are jobs from 9 AM set up to clean up after serving ends at 7:30. See him, call him, and sign up for one or more positions.
The Baby Blanket project for the District Governors visit, headed in our club by Gerylann, collected a total of 3,733 blankets which were given to the neo-natal department of El Camino Hospital.
At last week’s Board Meeting it was voted to contribute $130 for two students from our Alta Vista Interact Club to attend the PRW Camp in February. It is a Rotary Camp aimed at Presidents and Presidents Elect of Interact Clubs and will be held at YMCA Camp Campbell.
The District Conference will be held from March 21 – 24 at the Meritage Resort in the Napa Valley. All members should get a flyer with the particulars of the Conference. A fantastic Cave reception for only those giving $1,000 this year to the Rotary Foundation will be held. If you are going to give to the Foundation, please make sure it is in by January 31 to qualify. Reduced rates for rooms are available if you book quickly.
Squaw Creek Resort Contest. Our club is in second place now but looks to be in first place by the end of the month. The first place prize is 10 rooms for 3 nights, second place prize is 7 rooms, and third place is 5 rooms at this resort during Memorial Day weekend.
Walt Joyce is looking for some people to fill a foursome for the District Golf Tournament which will be held at the Silverado Resort on Thursday prior to the District Conference.
Program:
Steve Nichols introduced Jim Long, a docent for the USS Hornet. The ship is a floating museum docked in Alameda. One of 5 ships through out the US from WWII which are now museums. Jim reviewed the history of the Hornet, its availability for rentals, hours of operation and viewing by the general public. After his impressive presentation he answered questions from our members.
Next meetings:
Next week we will have our quarterly social meeting at Scotts on Castro in Mountain View. No lunch meeting. The meeting will begin at 5PM. All members, spouses and guests are invited.
Our next lunch meeting will be on February 5th. Our ‘three-fer” will be Gerry Felix.
President Judy’s dream for this year: Each member will attend every meeting possible, arrive before 12:15, take on at least one club responsibility and bring in at least one new member. Don’t forget to wear your Rotary Pin!
