President Sandi called to order the best Rotary club ever at 12:30 PM
Heather Stenshamn led our pledge to the flag.
Dennis Kobza was our greeter and gave the thought of the day.
Phil Armi led us in song, “La Cucaracha”
President-Elect Anita Grossman invited introductions to any visitors to the meeting. We did not have any visitors at today’s meeting.
Club announcements delivered by President Sandi:
Mother’s Day Cards are available through District 5170 ‐ Honor mothers on Mother’s Day and help mothers in regions of the world protect their children from the spread of Polio. Your $25 donation will provide polio vaccines for 40 children. If you have signed up please make your check payable to The Rotary Foundation and give them to Gerry Felix.
Rotary Responds to the Disaster in Japan:
The Rotary Foundation has established the Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands Disaster Recovery Fund. Contributions can be made to “The Rotary Foundation” with a note to designate to Japan Fund on your check.
Club fellowship ski trip in Tahoe is here, (March 24‐27). Speak with Bruce Barsi about the details.
Kim Castro has organized the “Steven’s Creek Trail Clean-Up”. This event will be held on Saturday, April 16 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Meet at Whisman Park, 310 Easy Street, Mountain View. Food and refreshments will be provided. Wear work clothes and sun screen. Please sign-up for this worthwhile event.
Rotating Dinner: Mark your calendar for Friday April 15, as the date for the ever-popular rotating dinner. Contact Jim Cunningham about the details of this festive event
District Golf Tournament will be held at Moffett Field golf course on Thursday May 5 th
Club Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 10. The golf tournament starts at 10 am - BBQ at 4:30 pm with drinks, and dinner at 5:30 pm. The cost to play in the tournament is $65.00, dinner is ~$25.00. Please sign-up on the sheet so we may get a firm number to plan for. Contact Walt Joyce for any other details.
District Assembly (Rotary University) April 9th. This is an educational event for next year’s board, for red badgers or anyone interested in attending. This event will be held at the Doubletree in San Jose and the fees are paid by the club.
Brochures about the District Celebration May 4-8 at the Santa Clara Marriott are available at each table. The activities planned for this week include a tennis tournament, golf tournament, parties, dinners, speakers, films and Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday. This event can be registered via online at the district website.
Meeting Discussion:
Anita Grossman continued discussion of membership goals and outreach for the future of the club. She presented a package of questions and data, including current club demographics. Club members reviewed data from the April 2009 Visioning Session, concluding that basic goals were still relevant (i.e., grow membership base to include younger members and more diversity). Kim Castro talked about a highly successful program sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce that draws younger community members to do community service projects. Geri Felix recommended that the group explore ways to be more technologically relevant to younger members of the community. The Club agreed that we should go forward with a Corporate Membership Program, but not participate in the Rotary International Pilot Program. Another recommendation was to explore holding one meeting a month in the evening to attract younger members, and perhaps make this primarily a social function. President Sandi will take these recommendations to the Board for further discussion and planning.
