President Sandi called the meeting to order at 12:32 pm with the ring of the bell and a smile.
Carla Paul led our pledge to the flag.

President-Elect Anita Grossman invited introductions to any visitors to the meeting. We had two visiting Rotarians with us today, Arley Marley, District Govenor Elect, and a visiting Rotarian and his wife from Norway whose daughter is doing PhD work at Stanford.

Los Altos Community Expo: Saturday, April 2, 9:30 am - 2:00 pm. This event is sponsored by the Los Altos Rotary Club & Los Altos Recreation. See flyer for more details.
District Assembly (Rotary University) April 9. This is an educational event for next year’s board, for red badgers or anyone interested in attending. This event will be held at the Doubletree in San Jose and the fees are paid by the club.
Rotary International Convention in New Orleans: May 21-25
March 31 is the second registration deadline if you want a discount. Fees will increase to $380 after Thursday March 31. Bill Gates will be speaking on Tuesday, May 24, 3:00 – 5:00 pm on the End Polio Now Campaign. Information for this event is available on the district website.
Today was the last day to sign up of Mother’s Day Cards. If you have signed up please make your checks payable to The Rotary Foundation and give them to Gerry Felix.
Rotary Responds to the Disaster in Japan:
The Rotary Foundation has established the Rotary Japan 2011 Disaster Recovery Fund and the fund has raised more than $500,000 as of March 25. Contributions can be made to “The Rotary Foundation” with a note to designate to Japan Fund. This fund will be used by Rotarians to support long-term recovery projects in the affected areas.
Kim Castro has organized the “Steven’s Creek Trail Clean-Up”. This event will be held on Saturday, April 16, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Meet at Whisman Park, 310 Easy Street, Mountain View. Food and refreshments will be provided. Wear work clothes and sun screen. Please sign-up for this worthwhile event.
Rotating Dinner: Mark your calendar for Friday April 15, as the date for the ever-popular rotating dinner. Jim Cunningham announced that this year’s rotating dinner will have a western theme with top live music. It will start at Jim’s house at 5:30 pm with cocktails, dinner at other locations, and end up at Walt Joyce’s house for the Rooten-Toonen chocolate brownie thing.

District Golf Tournament will be held at Moffett Field golf course on Thursday, May 5.
Club Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 10. The golf tournament starts at 10:00 am, BBQ at 4:30pm with drinks, and dinner at 5:30 pm. The cost to play in the tournament is $65.00, dinner is $25.00. Please sign-up for golf and dinner or just come to the BBQ and have loads of fun. Contact Walt Joyce for any other details.
Brochures about the District Celebration May 4-8 at the Santa Clara Marriott are available at each table. The activities planned for this week include a tennis tournament, golf tournament, parties, dinners, speakers, films and Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday. This event can be registered via online at the district website.

Carla Paul introduced Barbara Avery from RotaCare as today’s speaker.
RotaCare Bay Area operates eleven free clinics throughout the Bay Area providing quality health care and immunization for the uninsured. These clinics are located from Concord, CA. to Half Moon Bay. The clinics are open daily and evenings several times per week. Each clinic has an Advisory Council that supports the clinic and is accountable to the RotaCare Bay Area Board of Directors. The Board is made up of past Rotary District Governors, Club Presidents, and Rotarians with selected expertise, clinic administrators and medical professionals. The Mountain View RotaCare clinic is a coalition of over 270 dedicated community volunteers who help keep the clinic running. Doctors, interpreters, medical assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and Rotarians are just some of the talented professionals that make this clinic work. A total of over 19,000 services are performed annually by all eleven RotaCare clinics with the Mountain View clinic providing over 10,500 of these services. Barbara has been involved with the formation of the Mountain View RotaCare facility and has seen it grow from a temporary hall at St. Athanasius church to the current facility at the El Camino Hospital / YMCA. Barbara thanked the club and specific Rotarians for their unending support and service to the Mountain View RotaCare clinic.
