Meeting Summary May 22, 2012
President’s Greeting:
· President Grossman welcomed everyone to the meeting as we returned to the Adobe House in Mountain View.
· Beginning on June 5, 2012, you must let the Club Secretary know if you will not be attending the Tuesday lunch by Monday noon the day before the meeting. Instructions for notifying the Club Secretary on the website will be sent to all members. This notification will enable the Club to monitor the cost of our lunches and provide the caterer with a correct head count.

Thought for the Day: Gerri Felix gave a quote from Albert Einstein that expresses the essence of Rotary: “The World is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” Rotarians look on do something.

Introduction of Visitors: Judy Hannemann acknowledged the scholarship recipients and their families who were attendance.
Special Announcements: Monique Kane was honored today as Woman of the Year at a special reception at the Los Altos History Museum on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Senator Joe Simitian chose Monique as the 11th District honoree and he hosted the reception.
General Club Announcements:
· Community Service Minute – Jim Spangler informed the Club that distribution of our annual charitable gifts to local non-profit organizations will begin at the end of June.
· Club Service Minute – Walt Joyce reminded the members of the June 8th Golf Tournament and BBQ. Golf will begin at 10:00am at Shoreline Golf Club and the BBQ will be held at the Palo Alto Elks Club starting at 5:00pm.
· Kickout Update – Tom Myers has set the date for the annual Kick Out for Sunday, June 24th. The event will be held at Michael’s at Shoreline beginning at 6:00pm.
· May 29th Fellowship Meeting will be held at Judy Hannemann’s house located at 1241 Eureka Avenue, Los Altos, CA. A joint meeting of the 2011/12 and the 2012/13 Board of Directors will be held at 4:00pm at the same location.
Rotary Jeopardy – Bruce Barsi fined himself and announced that his son had graduated from Columbia Medical School. Jim Cochran played Rotary Jeopardy and paid $25 when he did not answer the question correctly.
Scholarship Presentations: Ken Scwaderer, Judy Hannemann, Chuck Osborn, Walt Joyce, and Bruce Barsi had the honor of introducing the 2012 Scholarship recipients. They are:

Adult Ed – Cynthia Ferrarese-Jaffe
The membership was delighted to hear the stories of our students’ path to higher education. All of the recipients expressed their sincere gratitude to the Club for assisting them with the cost of their education. Mountain View Rotarians have long supported students from the Mountain View community to achieve their educational goals. The Mountain View Adult School’s guidance counselor expressed her appreciation to the Club for being the first to support their graduates with scholarship funds.
Next week’s meeting will be a social at the home of Judy Hannemann (see above) 5:30 PM. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided.
