President Sandi opened the meeting at 12.30 pm

 

Steve Nichols spoke with sadness about Dave Cole’s son, whose memorial many members had attended.                        

Phil Armi led the singing of God Bless America.

 

Visiting was Rotarian Darrell Monda, from Los Gatos, who urged members to play in the Golf Tournament at the NASA Ames golf course on Thursday. Call Peter Early to arrange.

 

Heather Stenshamn was welcomed back in good health.

 

President Sandi thanked Kim Castro and her committee for their work in deciding grants:

CHAC $2500, CSA $3158, Day Worker Center $750, FLY (Fresh Lifelines for Youth) $1000, Friends of Deer Hollow Farm $500, Just Read $2500, Cops & Gobblers $2000, Partners for a New Generation $500, RYLA $2760, PAL $500.

 

More members are urged to go to the District Celebration is this weekend, especially for the Saturday Dinner.

Joint board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday May 11th at 5pm at the YMCA.

 

Alan Goodman volunteered to help Jenny-Rebecca for the orientation of potential member Dom Passinisi.

 

Dave Cole e-mailed his heartfelt thanks for condolences for the loss of his son. Donations in the name of James Aaron Cole can be made to the Club’s Endowment Fund which gives Scholarships to students.

 

District Announcements: Fremont Warm Springs club held a Fashion Show fundraiser for polio that raised $52,688, the largest gift in District 5170’s history.  A new Rotaract Club has been formed in greater Fremont.

 

Food of the Month for CSA is healthy snacks such as granola bars or cliff bars etc.

 

Raffle tickets were available to help Interact Club members go to the Convention.

 

Judy Hannemann fined Peter Early, whose new son, Jacob, arrived on March 29. Ken Schwaderer celebrated his grandson’s second birthday and Alan Goodman confessed to becoming a Great-Uncle.

 

Speakers were Kristine Bruce and Raya Elias-Petros from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Kristine cited the many resources for health and medical information from Health Libraries and on line. Raya showed pictures of the new Cancer Center being built in Sunnyvale. Ground breaking was in February for the $160 million project. The Palo Alto Medical Foundation is seeking contributions from local communities.

 

Next week – Some scholarship Recipients will be welcomed at the meeting.
