President’s Greeting:   
 
Good afternoon!   I’d like to welcome you to the Rotary Club of Mountain View for its second meeting of the 2018-2019 Rotary year. My name is Bert Raphael, your President for 2018-2019.  
 
Our Rotary International theme for this is “Be the Inspiration”.  Our Mountain View Rotary Club theme is “Have Fun Being the Inspiration.”

Program:
 
“Observations of Mountain View over 20+ years of public service.”
Mike Kasperzak, Introduced by Bert
 
Mike Kasperzak, a 42 year resident of Mountain View, talked about his observations during his public service as a Mountain View council member and mayor. He started at the Parks and Recreation Commission in 1994 when housing prices were taking off. At the time, high tech first accounted for 30% of sales tax revenue. This changed when Google became a dominant corporation in the area. He served on the Environmental Planning Commission when downtown parking needed more attention. The Computer History Museum opened in 1996, 11 months after groundbreaking. Don Giovanni changed its facade, the first restaurant to implement the downtown improvement plan. He was elected to the city council in 1998 when new restaurants were opening and plastic chairs were made illegal. He was mayor in 2003 when a new senior center opened. Google was growing and Silicon Graphics was on the way out. High tech companies purchased local methane gas as an energy source. During his tenure he was involved in various housing development plans and construction of trails.
