President’s Greeting:  
 
Good afternoon!   I’d like to welcome you to the Rotary Club of Mountain View. My name is Bert Raphael, your President for 2018-2019. 
 
Our Rotary International theme for this Rotary year is “Be the Inspiration”.  Our Mountain View Rotary Club theme is “Have Fun Being the Inspiration.”

Dr. Leslie Friedman, Artistic Director of the Lively Foundation, will tell us about the International Dance Festival@Silicon Valley, which had its 7th season in Mountain View, June 10 - 23, 2018; and her interaction with citizens and businesses in Mountain View.
 
Leslie shared her associations with Rotary including her Rotarian grandfather.  She has traveled all over the world and has found “rescuers” everywhere – those people who helped her in one way or another.  From her perspective, Rotary is an organization of rescuers.  
 
She was a Fulbright scholar twice.  In 1984 she was in India. After that she traveled extensively with the State Department. 
 
She has a PhD in history from Stanford but her dual passion was dance.   She was humbled by individuals who came up to her after a show and said they found her performance life changing.  She developed a performance based on the Gold Rush and presented it to over 1500 4th grade students.  She discussed various forms of dance including Tap which is uniquely American combining Irish and African American styles.
