March 7, 2017
President Jerylann Mateo rang the bell and called the meeting to order with the Mountain View Rotary mantra, “We are a Fun, Enthusiastic and Inspiring Rotary Family…we are the best Rotary Club around!!!” She reminded us that our International call to action for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity,” our District Governor’s call to action is “Attract the Young, Have Lots of Fun, Get More Done,” and our club’s call to action is “Make the World a Better Place.”

SPEAKER:
Jim Cunningham introduced our speaker R.C. Peck who is a Certified Financial Planner, talking to us about the Investment Diversification Myth.

Mr. Peck considers himself to be a financial heretic. He was told by financial professionals that managing his investments by himself was much too complicated and that he needed to let them handle it. He wasn’t satisfied with that and continued to ask why during his development in the financial world.
He spoke of the three big myths of investing:
1) You need to have diversity
2) You need to rebalance your investments periodically
3) Never get out of the market
In simple terms, Mr. Peck suggested that you learn which direction the market is heading and either jump in or out accordingly.
He said that one of the greatest social goods you can do is understand how to protect your wealth…because one of the most important currencies we have is how we affect others.

Next Week our meeting is on Tuesday, March 14th. Our Speaker will be Nell Bonke, talking about “Silicon Valley: The Secret Sauce.” Our 4-Fer for next week is Alan Goodman.
