Meeting Notes by Jim Cochran

President-Elect Bert Raphael opened the meeting and welcomed us all. President Scott is away.
Thought for the Day: Roger spoke of his travel originally from Korea to the United States of America, and how thankful he is for the welcome he received and the education he obtained here. He then told us that he was giving $1000 to the club foundation.
We had two visitors from Egypt today. The mother is a Rotarian and she brought her son. She exchanged banners with Bert.
Monique recognized Walt and Bob with a cupcake to honor their contribution to The Rotary Foundation this year.
President-Elect Bert reminded us of the club party on December 16th.
Anita told us of the social meeting next Tuesday at her place, 5:30 PM. The lunch meeting will be dark.
Tori described the auction of time in her house in Santa Fe, NM. The auction will be December 7 at our club meeting. The time will be any non-rental time for the house. Link below:
The Bell Ringing project for the Salvation Army on December 9th now has a full complement of members to staff the bucket for the Saturday.
Bruce reported on our social project last weekend: Cops and Gobblers. He said that 400 baskets of food were prepared and delivered to Mountain View families by hundreds of people.
Bruce said that the club ski trip is now scheduled for March 1 to 5. Individuals and families that want a weekend in the snow at his Tahoe house are invited. He said the date could be changed if there is a big conflict.
Ken (Cal graduate) came to the meeting wearing a red Stanford shirt. Stanford won the Big Game last weekend by only 3 points which did not meet the 16 points he had been given. Jim and Fred agreed to pay the club foundation the bet. Ken also announced that he has a new grandson.

Dick Lubman introduced our speaker: Mr. Robert E. Lee, board member and founder of the Hope’s Corner. He gave us an update on how important this service is to the people of Mountain View.
People are hungry in our community. Even if employed, people earning minimum wage cannot afford both rent and food. People who are without a home need not only a meal, but a place to feel welcomed. Hope’s Corner is addressing these needs every Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. by providing a nutritious breakfast and providing a bag lunch. They are also providing showers and fresh clothes for homeless people on Thursdays. They are working to expand services and provide more value to those in need.
