Meeting Notes August 4, 2015

 

President Twana recognized Tom who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Jim Cochran was recognized as the Greeter and gave the thought for the day.

 

President-Elect Jerylann recognized visiting Rotarians, Dennis and Paul from the Los Altos Rotary.  A guest Kathy was introduced.

 

Honorary member Thomas Dittler returned from Munich with a banner from his club there which is Munich East.  He told of a project they have for helping young people now in refugee camps.  They helped 50 students get integrated into schools and the culture.

 

 

We reviewed the directory for correct information.  Paul will be sending you the information that you requested on the signup sheet very soon and will be emailing the spreadsheet for those who would like it. It is always possible for you to update your directory entry yourself by logging onto club runner, but our Secretary Paul is happy to make the changes for you if you send him an email.

 

President Twana gave many thanks to those who have joined the President’s Club which is getting our club off to a strong start in the new year.

 

The BBQ this year will be this Thursday, August 6 at 5 pm at Mission Springs, Scotts Valley. Heather Stenshamn will be attending. If anyone wishes to attend and would like to ride with Heather to the event, please email or call her.

 

Attending the San Jose Giants Baseball Team:

Alan needs all names by Friday.  The game is on Saturday, August 15.  Game is at 6 PM, the barbeque is after 5 PM with most around 5:30.  25 or 30 are expected.

 

The next board meeting is Thursday, August 20, 5 PM at CHAC on El Camino.

 

Tuesday, September 1, will be the meeting with our District Governor Susan Valenta. The board will meet with her before the meeting at 10:30.

 

This year, the gift by our club to the District Governor will be a donation for Children’s Wheelchairs. Each $100 we give as a club will provide one wheelchair for a child, thanks to a matching program. The District hopes to fill a container and is halfway there, thanks to the generosity of other clubs in the District.

 

We will be volunteering to again help with the parking project for CHAC on September 12 and 13.  Paul Schultz of CHAC was on hand to tell us about this important project.

 

 

 “Rotary Means Business”. One of the reasons to join Rotary is to network with other businesses. Our club has been invited to attend a “Rotary Means Business” event sponsored by the Palo Alto Clubs on Wednesday morning, August 19 beginning at 7 am at the Channing House in Palo Alto. There will be a speaker on Crowdfunding and lots of networking.

 

Membership Workshop on Saturday, August 22, from 9:30 to 11 in Milpitas.

 

 

Dick Lubman introduced Mountain View Police Chief Max Bosel.

The Chief lives in Mountain View, has worked for the city for 20 years, and is today celebrating is first anniversary as the appointed Chief of Police.  He is a first generation citizen and his parents were from Munich, Germany.

 

He told us of the size of the police staff and what their duties are. He also spoke of the policies they have and all of the concerns there are while trying to do the job of police with respect and consideration.
