Program -- Fred introduced IdaRose Sylvester, founder of Together We Will, a national grassroots organization and civic engagement organization. She spoke about what it takes to organize a protest. Originally, she was involved in organizing protests against Elon Musk and Tesla. The results of the 2016 presidential election motivated her to organize protests against Trump and the MAGA movement. The No Kings protest requires hundreds of hours of planning over 6-8 weeks. It is a full-time job for 1 person for 2 weeks leading up to the event. There may be up to 150 volunteers needing safety vests, flags and water. Safety plans are coordinated with police and fire departments including trained safety teams and command centers. Marketing is done through branding, social media, flyers, handouts, ads, press, emails, partners, editorials and photography. After the event, complaints are fielded in order to educate the public and figure out what next steps are needed to address them.
