Meeting Notes
June 23, 2020
Hi Everyone. Hope you are all doing okay and keeping busy. Thank you to everyone who is sharing your stories and I hope to hear from everyone in the weeks to come.
Here’s our news for this week:
Rotary News
We gave President Tom a virtual Kick Out as he completed the last meeting of his term. Members thanked him for all of his leadership and work during a most unusual year and he was given a heartfelt, virtual, sitting ovation.
No virtual meeting next week. Our next virtual meeting via Zoom will be July 7th. It will be President Paul’s first meeting and a Club Assembly. Paul and his Board Members will be sharing their plans for the coming Rotary year.
From Ken: I have attached a thank you note from Nicole Player. She is our 2020 Los Alto High School scholarship scholar.
Alan passed on some news from Cindy Cole that Dave’s Immunotherapy is not working, so he will be starting chemotherapy soon. We continue to send good wishes and thoughts to Dave and his family.
President Tom reminded everyone that it is a good idea to get tested for COVID, particularly if you are in a high risk category, and also to get tested fairly frequently. At CSA, it is recommended that employees get tested every thirty days. He suggested that it is best to assume everyone you come in contact with has the virus and then take the proper precautions.
If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Tom or one of the Board Members know. We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.
Personal News
This is an opportunity for us to share whatever information we would like so we can keep up with what everyone is doing these days.
Past President Chuck Osborn sent a message saying that he enjoys receiving our bulletins and he is currently the Treasurer of the San Mateo Rotary Club. He wanted folks to know that he still has a special place for the Mountain View Club.
From the meeting today:
Alan – He’s living the dream. Family and friends are all healthy and doing okay.
Roger – He is still working from home. They had their first outside meal at Santana Row last week. He visited Castro Street last Saturday and it was very crowded.
Bert – They are pretty well settled into their new place, but it was tough moving from a large home into an 800 square foot apartment. There have been no COVID cases in their new community. Anne and he have been keeping active with Zoom music sessions.
Bruce – Suzanne and he have been spending time with their three Grandson and helping with child care. They are also increasing their bicycling mileage preparing for the ride around Lake Tahoe at the end of summer.
Sanjay – He was down in Southern California visiting his Mom last week. While he was there, he went to the beach and found that very few people were wearing masks. Work has been good and School Board activities are keeping him quite busy. He and Scott are meeting former MV Rotarian Dick Lubeman for coffee on July 1st at 9:00 am, with the location to be determined. He invited everyone to join them.
Twana – Working from home and responding to many wonderful donors to CSA. She is feeling better from a recent health issue during which she experienced an appointment at urgent care. She learned that she needed to be tested for COVID and receive her results before a doctor would see her.
Jack – With school now out, Jack’s daughters joined our meeting today which kept Alan engaged making faces back and forth. Jack continues to work at home and he is most fortunate to have quality technical support from his daughters when issues arise.
Judy – She has seen Jim C. and Dee for a few minutes during church meal pick ups. She is staying healthy and joining Tom with various physical therapy and rehab sessions.
Jim S. – He is still working in the office and taking all precautions. His family and staff are all well. He and Jane just purchased a home in Pismo Beach and will be going down later in the week to pick up the keys.
Anita – Mitch is back from Florida and after a period of quarantine and a negative COVID test, they are spending lots of time together and Mitch is cooking up a storm. At CSA, she is working to thank the many generous donors.
Tori – Her pet pig needed surgery recently and it had to be performed at UC Davis. The surgery was successful and the pig is well on the road to recovery. She is missing her Grandkids in New York, but won’t be able to go out to see them anytime soon.
Cathy – She has been going on hikes and meeting fiends here and there. She has also done some outdoor dining. She thought it was a treat to get out for a dentist and doctor’s appointment. She may be working part time again in July up at Stanford Shopping Center. And she’s planning to do a COVID test tomorrow.
Paul – He was sitting outside for the meeting as his house cleaner was working again. He and Susan are watching their Granddaughter several days a week. They just returned from a trip to their cabin in Twain Harte where folks don’t take the COVID precautions very seriously.
Tom – He and Hart are living in an apartment in Palo Alto temporarily while their home is being remodeled. The project is progressing very well and he is quite busy at CSA.
