Greeting/Ring Bell (Cathy)
Hello! Welcome to our meeting of the Mountain View Rotary Club. This year's International Rotary Theme is "Unite for Good." Our local club theme this year is "Our Rotary Family Cares."
Pledge of Allegiance – led by Alex Amoroso
Thought for the Day – 3fer is Jarod. He told us about a chapter in John Medina’s book, “Brain Rules,” that discusses scientific research about the benefit of physical activity on brain health.
Introduction of Guests (Fred): Our club had two guests, Robert Cox, member of the Mountain View Kiwanis Club and MV City Council candidate, and Daniel Stenshamn, Heather Stenshamn’s son.
Club Business/Announcements
- Heather – various topics
- Club dues have gone out, members please pay dues as soon as you can.
- Heather is taking over for Sanjay’s in managing the club’s RYLA program.
- She has finished her term as District Treasurer.
- Paul – Speaker Chairs
- Speaker Chair position is still available for April and May. We’ll be shifting to 2 meetings, 1 social, and 1 activity (any fun outing/activity, to be arranged by the Speaker Chair) per month.
- Michael Singleton Honor Flight Fundraiser
- August 22nd – Honor Flight Bay Area is hosting a fundraiser at Caymus Winery

- Cathy, Fred, and Heather will be attending.
- September 19th – Rotary Collaborative Impact Summit, San Jose McEnery Convention Center.

- Robert Cox – Kiwanis Club of Mountain View 100th Anniversary Gala
- August 8th – The Kiwanis Club is celebrating 100 years at Don Giovanni’s. Tickets available at https://www.kiwanismountainview.org/100-anniversary-gala-tickets. In addition to food and drinks, a live band will be playing music.
- Scott – End of Year Kick Out
- Friday, June 26 – Kick Out for Cathy!
- The Kick Out will be held at Pacific Catch on El Camino. It will be from 6:00-9:00 PM, with drinks starting at 6:00 PM, dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, and entertainment afterwards.
- The goal is to have 7 bottles of red wine and 7 bottles of white. We could possibly use more wine, especially if you have a particular preference of wine you’d like to drink.
- There will be 6 entrees to choose the night of the Kick Out as well as appetizers.
- Parking is on the East side of the restaurant.
- Fred – Club Assembly
- July 22nd – No program for the meeting on July 22nd, it will be a Club Assembly for members to discuss plans for the coming year.
Cathy Bonus Bucks (Bruce)
- Everyone present received Bonus Bucks for attending Cathy’s last meeting as Club President.
Program (Fred Introduces)
- Amanda Rotella w/ the City of MV spoke on the planned events around the Summer of Soccer.
- Amanda’s mandate as Economic Vitality Manager is to boost the local economy, enhance community engagement, and elevate the city’s visibility.
- Mountain View’s Super Bowl events were very successful and hoping to achieve that again with the World Cup.
- Super Bowl Tailgate (39% increase in visitors to downtown over same day previous year, visitors also stayed longer)
- Map of local events and businesses offering specials (8k views)
- Town-hosted events for the World Cup:
- June 11th – July 19th: Cuesta Park Foot Golf (like disc golf with a soccer ball)
- July 5th – July 19th: Downtown Mini Pitch (mini soccer field for open play and events featuring SJ Earthquakes and Bay FC players)
- July 18th – Bronze Match Watch Party (Castro Street)
- July 19th – Final Match Watch Party (Castro Street)
- Mountain View is also releasing a map and calendar with information about watch parties, fan events, and specials at local shops and restaurants.
- Entertainment Zone – a segment of Castro Street will allow for public consumption of alcoholic beverages purchased from participating businesses.
- Amanda also discussed the Economic Vitality Dept’s mission, goals, offered grants, permitting guidance/assistance, new Maker’s Fair coming this Autumn, Public Art initiative, pop-up shops, and downtown vacancies.
