President Twana welcomed all to the Rotary Club of Mountain View – “We’re More Than A Club …We’re a Family!”    She reminded us that Rotary International’s Call to Action is: “Be a Gift to the World;” and, our Club’s Call to Action is “Fun Through Service.”   This year's club focus is "Being the Best We can Be."

 
Helen led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Scott shared his “Thoughts for the Day,” and he was thanked for being the Greeter and bringing the treats. 
 
Jerylann Introduced visiting Rotarians and Guests ...    Rotarians:  Kim Copher.   Guests:  Geofe Thompson, Max Hauser, Jeremy Theil, Jan Carey, Tony Siress, Ben Dodson, Mai Ngu, and Ellen Kamei. 
 
General Club Announcements: 
  • Twana announced a "Flash Campaign" for Polio Plus where minimum $30 donations are being sought through March, to be matched 2:1 by the Gates Foundation.   Checks can be made out to Rotary Foundation.  An envelope for this will be circulated during March.
  • A sign-up sheet was passed around for a tour of the Mayview Clinic in Mountain View, scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th, from 4 to 5 p.m.  Dennis Potter is the contact for this tour.
  • Scott announced the Steven's Creek Trail Cleanup for Saturday, April 16th, from 9 a.m. to Noon.  A sign-up sheet will be distributed at future meetings. 
  • The Rotating Dinner, being organized by Bruce, is set for Saturday, May 7th, 5:30 p.m.
  • Sanjay announced the new volunteer opportunity for Hope's Corner, delivering food on Saturday mornings.  A sign-up sheet was circulated.
  • Twana asked for a show of hands on who would be interested in holding a luncheon meeting at the Forum, with a tour to be included.  That will probably be set for the 3rd or last Tuesday in June.
  • Tom announced the next evening social to be on Tuesday, March 29th, at Tom's and Hart's house.  Cost will be $15 per person.  If your birthday is in March, you get in for free.  
  • Rotary U (District Assembly) is set for Thursday, March 24th, at the India Community Center in Milpitas.  The Club pays for your attendance, which includes dinner.  A sign-up sheet was circulated.
  • We will have a table for our Club at the District Conference on Saturday night, April 30th.  If you are interested in attending, please sign up.  Dinner is $75. 
  • Twana passed around a sheet for International Piano Competition: Sandra Wright Shen performing, on Sunday, March 20th from 7 to 9 p.m. in San Jose.  General admission is $35.
  • Jerylann reported on the PETS training she just attending for incoming club presidents.  She reported she came back with many ideas to implement during her presidential year.  She is asking everyone to be involved.
 
SPEAKER INTRO & PRESENTATION:   Twana introduced Joe Simitian, Santa Clara County Supervisor. 
 
Joe addressed the group about trust in government and the "small behaviors" or "micro-aggressions" that seem to push people away from their government.  He answered questions.   After the presentation, President Twana announced that “as a token of our appreciation," we will be making a donation in your name to Rotary Polio Plus.
 
President Twana announced next Tuesday's speaker, March 15th, as being Jeremy Theil, a sustainability scientist.  His topic will be "Now that we are out of water, what are we going to do about?"  The greeter for next week is Sheila Hodgkinson.  She then adjourned the meeting.
