Meeting Notes
October 20, 2020
President Paul welcomed everyone to today’s Mountain View Rotary Meeting. The Rotary International theme for this year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities.” Our Club theme is “We Open Opportunities For Everyone in the Community.”
Paul reminded members that Mandy is the new Rotary Foundation Chair and the goal for the Club is to have 100% participation in this year’s contributions to the Foundation. You can send your donation for The Rotary Foundation to Mandy Andrei at 2934 Vivian Lane, San Jose, CA 95124. If you prefer, you can also make your donation to The Rotary Foundation on line at https://my.rotary.org/en/donate. If you make an on line donation, please send a message to Mandy to let her know.
Paul thanked Tori, Twana, Heather, Scott, Alan, and Bruce for joining the President’s Club. Alan also joined the President’s Club during the meeting. The President’s Club is $150 with $100 going to the Club Endowment and $50 going to the Club Account. Heather welcomed two visitors today, Bodil Jorgensen and Dr. Achal Gang who is considering joining our Club.
Heather said it is unlikely that we will be able to have a Holiday event this year because of the pandemic, but she is hopeful that we will be able to have a comparable event in the spring.
Jack gave us a brief update on the Club’s Endowment fund letting us know that it has been performing very well this year.
Alan received an update from Cindy Cole that Dave is doing well and his recent tests have been positive.
Alan will check with the Buddhist Temple to see if they are accepting reservations for next year yet for the Crab Feed.
If anyone knows of any of our members in distress or that need anything, please let President Paul or one of the Board Members know. We want to make sure everyone knows that we are here to take care of each other.
Speaker
Heather introduced our speaker, Alan Chiu, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Enya. Alan has been very active in the tech field and has been involved in several local start-ups.
Enya has developed software which can assist in identifying and tracking individuals who may have contracted COVID. It is designed to protect the privacy of individuals and reduce liability for entities which receive this information.
FeverIQ is the risk model which is updated frequently with the most current information and symptoms for COVID. It is based on data from more than five million people in nineteen different countries. Clients using the software check in daily to determine if they are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID. All client information remains private with the host only receiving notification if the client may be positive for COVID. If a client is determined to be at potential risk for COVID, they are immediately sent a test kit at home with a turnaround time of forty-eight hours when completed.
