President Jerylann’s Greeting:
Good Afternoon & welcome to the Rotary Club of Mtn. View where: We are a Fun, Enthusiastic & Inspiring Rotary Family…we are the BEST Rotary Club around!!!
Our International theme for 2016-2017 is “Rotary Serving Humanity”
Our District Governors call to action is “Attract the Young, Have Lots of Fun, Get More Done! And our Clubs call to action is: “Make the World A Better Place!” Thank you all for joining us today.
Vocation Spotlight: Dick Lubman…Scott Johnson talked about being the marketing director at Villa Siena. He reflected on his experience in The Boy Scouts of America and his interest in fundraising for non-profits. Jerylann Mateo grew up in Mountain View and ultimately became a real estate broker. She particularly enjoys getting people into their dream homes.
Foundation Minute: Cupcakes were given to Jack, Alan, Fred, Scott, Dick, Ernie, and Dennis for their contributions to the Rotary Foundation. Jeff Orth presented bronze, silver, and gold coins commemorating the hundred year anniversary of the Rotary Foundation to Rotarians making pledges.
Monique and District Governor Jeff Orth recognized Jim Cochran for being a Paul Harris+4.
Other Club Announcements:
- Bruce announced that “Cops and Gobblers” is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 20 at 9am. Over 400 food baskets will be distributed. All are encouraged to help out.
- Dave recently volunteered at CSMA and announced they are looking for volunteers to serve breakfast at Hope's Corner on Saturday, November 19.
President’s Club: Heather and Steve joined today.
Auction:
-We have some great auctions coming up!! Remember if you have anything to donate, please contact Jerylann. The Thanksgiving week 11/19-11/26 is still available at Incline Village, so let me know if you or anyone you know is interested in this great week! Our next Auction will be 11/8 for 2 Sideline Club Plus VIP parking to Golden State Warriors vs. Atlanta Hawks game on 11/28, these are great seats donated by Jack Wong!!
SPEAKER INTRO: Steve Ross introduced District Governor Jeff Orth. Jeff awarded pins of the Order Of The Stinking Rose to Bert, Jerylann, Bruce, Paul, Sheila, Hiro, Alan, Monique, and Judy for contributions to Rotary. Jeff joined the Gilroy Rotary Club in 1999, but became a Rotarian when he learned about the cleft palate project at the Salinas club. He was overcome with emotion when a man who had his cleft palate repaired thanked Rotary for giving him the ability to kiss his wife for the first time. Jeff described his trip to Monterey, Mexico when he worked on the wheelchair distribution project. He believes lasting peace will be achieved through organization like Rotary. He praised Mountain View Rotary for its accomplishments and encouraged us to attract younger members. He promoted attendance at the upcoming International Convention in Atlanta and the District Conference in Santa Cruz.
