Mountain View Rotary Meeting  - Tuesday October 16, 2015

Jerylann introduced visitors:
            1. Joe Vlietstra from Ontario, CA - with Northup Corp.
            2. Dennis Potter - Los Altos
            3. M.A.T. Caparas - former President Rotary International
 
Bruce reported the last social meeting was success. The next social meeting will be at 6:00 PM at Fred & Debbie's home. Theme is Halloween - costume optional.
Monique had the Foundation Cupcake moment - the following received cupcakes:

            4. Dick - joined president's club too. Back from 3 week trip to Europe

President Twana read a letter to club thanking it for wheel chair donations.
 
General Announcements:
  • Scott informed the group that the next Community Service Project will be at Hope’s Corner on October 24.  There will be 2 shifts 7:30 – 9 and 9 to 10:30
  • Judy mentioned that Asante will be on November 5 at the Elks Club in Sunnyvale.
  • Bruce and Scott reminded us that the Cops and Cobblers will be on November 22 at the MV Police Station.
  • Next Board meeting maybe either on October 15 or 22.  More to come.
  • Holiday Party will be on December 11 at Don Giovanni’s said Jerylann.
 
District Announcements:
  • Interact Fall Leadership Conference October 11 from 8:30 to 3:30 pm at the Independence High School in San Jose
  • Youth Service Project Faire – Signup sheet was sent around
 
Speaker: Judy introduced Dan Rich, City manager of Mountain View.
 
Quiz:
            1. How many people used the library in a year = 678,030
            2. Water used per day = 10.5 Million gal/day
            3. Acres covered by trash = 411
            4. Largest source of income = property taxes
He stated that the budget is basically good.
 
Mountain View Key Projects:
            1.  Improve Housing: 34,175 . Rental 58%.  Council looking at new initiatives to increase housing.
            2. Environment: Recycle water - Climate action plans - Increase number of trees - Solar panels & induction lighting - Community choice energy.
            3. Transportation: Traffic is terrible Looking for ways to improve it - today too many cars with one driver - Shuttle services by the corporations - bilked lanes - Transit center.
Major city projects:
            1. Shoreline athletic field to open in November - 461 acres.
            2. Park on Rengstorff Ave. - has community gardens
            3. Community Center - new face lift
            4. Looking at the master plan.
What is going on in Mountain View = A lot.
