Fred Storek, Club President, welcomed all to the meeting. He reminded us of this year's International Rotary Theme: "Create Lasting Impact." Fred stated that we are proud to be Mountain View Rotarians! Jack led the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Roger, 3fer for the day, shared his thoughts about being grateful for all his opportunities. Next year, Roger will be involved in his 60th high school reunion in Taiwan. 100 people will attend. He is looking forward to attending and is appreciative of all that has been accomplished in his life.

District Governor Visit
Heather introduced our District 5170 District Governor, Geeta Kadambi. Geeta holds a doctor’s degree, is a scientist, and is a patent agent. She runs a patent law firm. She was recognized in 2023 as Rotary District’s Rotarian of the Year.

DG Geeta congratulated Mountain Year Rotary for being a 100-year club, having been founded over 100 years ago. She talked about her theme to “inspire, collaborate and create lasting impact.” Geeta also shared her thought of “Just as spices come together to make a good, tasty dish, Rotarians always come together to serve humanity and to make the world a better place.” She values diversity in our membership. She provided some basic information about Rotary to include there are 63 clubs in District 5170 and there are 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide. Although Rotary has some good statistics, in promoting membership we need to use “impact stories” which describe how Rotary service changes lives. She encouraged our club to work on membership and said we should think about having an Interact parents’ night.

Program – Peter Sherris
Jack introduced Peter Sherris, MD, a member of Rotary Club of Oakland. Peter then shared their club's international project, which is funded by an International Rotary Global Grant to support Indigenous Maya-Achi family farmers in Rabinal, Guatemala. The key to the project is helping them build climate resilience and sustainable agriculture. He said in this Central America area agriculture systems are failing, and they need new farming techniques and support. His club has been doing this project for the past 5 years and they feel the project duration will be 10 years. He asked our club to consider joining in by providing some funding.

Jarod Partlo and Michael Singleton were both presented their blue badges. Cathy Merrill was presented her past-president badge.
