President Twana Karney greeted and welcomed members and guests to the Rotary Club of Mountain View where, “We’re More Than A Club…We’re a Family!!!”

She reminded us that our International call to action for 2015-2016 is to “Be a Gift to the World” and our club’s call to action is “Fun Through Service.”  This year’s club focus is “Being the Best We Can Be.”

Jerylann introduced our guests.  We had one visiting Rotarian from Argentina, Pablo Gutierrez.
           
General Club Announcements:
 
  • Thanks to Tori for providing dessert today.
 
  • Community Service – Monique spoke of the need for volunteers to help staff the CHAC Parking Lot Project at this year’s Art and Wine Festival on September 12th and 13th.  They still need many more volunteers, so please see Monique to sign up for a shift.
 
  • Board Meeting – Thursday, September 17, starting at 5:00 pm at CHAC.
 
 
  • Evening Social – Our next evening social will be Tuesday, September 29th, at Past President Bruce’s home in Mountain View. It will be from 6 to 8 pm and will cost $15 per person. If you are planning to attend, please sign up on the sheet going around to give us an idea of how many appetizers, wine and beer to provide.  If your birthday is this month, you get in free!
 
 
  • Sanjay announced a Phone-A-Thon on September 16 and 17 to support the MVLA school fund with a target of raising $1.6 million.
 
 
District Announcements:
 
  • Membership Workshop – The workshop was on Saturday, August 22nd, from 9:30 to 11 am in Milpitas. Twana and Tori attended. 
 
  • Public Image Seminars – The first in a series of seminars on Public Image will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd, at 7pm at the Santa Clara Police Community Rooms and it is free.
 
  • Interact Presidents’ Meeting – The meeting will be on Saturday, September 5th from 10:30 am to 4:15 pm at the Quinlan Community Center in Cupertino.
 
  • Interact Fall Leadership Conference – The conference will take place on Sunday, October 11th, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at Independence High School in San Jose.
 
International Announcements:
 
  • Bert presented to Susan Valenta the funds our club raised for 9 wheelchairs for children in Mexico.
 
Personal Announcements:
 
  • Ernie had just returned from a trip to Peru.
 
  • Brodie was awarded the Paul Harris fellow from Bodies’ uncle who is the Rotary District Governor of Hawaii.
 
 
Foundation  Announcements:
 
  • Susan Valenta, Twana and Monique acknowledged the following individuals for their contribution to the foundation: Jack, Jim Cochran (both Paul Harris fellows) Bruce, Monique, Dennis, Tom, Bert, Paul, Sheila, Hiro, Jerylann and Ernie.  
 
SPEAKER: 
 
Twana introduced our District Governor, Susan Valenta.  Susan was the former CEO of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce.  She spoke of all the wonderful contributions being made by District 5170.
 
 
Our Next Meeting is on Tuesday, September 8th, starting at 12:15 pm, at the Adobe Building.  The Speaker is Alba Alamillo, Hypnotherapist.  Our 4fer next week is Kevin Chiapello.
