Tom announced plans for Christmas Party on December 6. Sign-up sheet was passed round.

                         

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Jim Spangler announced the passing of a former Club member- John McInerney.

 

Carla Paul will tell us next week about the results of A Sante wine-tasting and auction in Sunnyvale.

 

Bruce Barsi- still wants more helpers for filling and delivering 190 food and toy baskets for Cops and Gobblers Thanksgiving effort. Meet at the Police station at 9am on Sunday, November 23.  Gerry Felix announced that the Cops and Gobblers program was approved for a Rotary Community opportunity grant.

 

Jim Cochran reminded us this is Foundation Month when every Rotarian should be considering their contributions to the Foundation.  Next week is the deadline to be entered in the raffle for contributions of $20 or more.  Remember: The goal is every Rotarian every year.

 

We welcomed back Sandi and Cheryl from their trip to China.

 

The Interact Club is asking for volunteers- On December 12 they have a dance at LucieSternCenter in Palo Alto. Volunteers needed to help out at the event from 8-11pm with an hour before and after to set up and clean up! Coat check, manning admissions, food, photography etc

 

FINEMASTER - Judy Hannemann pinch hitting -

 

With a Big Game coming up, five Stanford supporters are putting up $20 each for their team against Cal. Ken Schwaderer was not present to counter this.

 

Bill Maston paid a fine of $100 for his absences and told of meeting chiefs in Fiji who agreed to the setting up of a Marine Reserve on the Coast where he has a project and at another Bay nearby.

 

David Tran, Karen Simpson Walt Joyce and Chuck were each fined $20 and had a chance to tell of their recent activities.

 

SPEAKER:

John Rinaldi spoke of the development of the DayWorkersCenter and introduced Maria Marroquin, the Center's Executive Director. She shared that this year the Center has had:

·         16,923 worker sign ins

·           5,357 jobs placed

·               10 permanent jobs

·             290 new workers

·             266 new employers

·               27 students per English Class

·           4,150 volunteer hours

 

They also help day workers who have been hired off the street and then not paid, which happens a lot.

 

Cindy Luedtke, who is on the board and also a program director with the Los Altos Community Foundation shared how they acquired their new building. Plans for the remodeling and development are going through the City process.  They invite everyone to come for a tour.
