We should certainly celebrate honors for our own John Rinaldi who is to be hailed as a "Shining Star" at the Chamber of Commerce Celebration of leaders event on November 7 at Microsoft. The event doesn't appear to be on the Chamber website yet, but you can call the office for info at 650.968.8378.

Roger Hasslerannounced that the name of the district conference was being changed to a district celebration, and that the focus this year was to celebrate the achievements of the clubs in our district.  The conference will be April 17 - 19 at the Santa Clara Marriott, so save the date!

 

Being passed around again and for the last time is the form to sign up for attending the Avenues of Service workshops in Hayward on October 16. Please sign up today so that we can send in the numbers to the District.

 

On October 28, we are to have a program by Rotacare and the nurses will give flu shots to people who come early that day.

 

The San Jose East/Evergreen Club are holding their annual "Wine Train Benefit" on October 4 in Sunol. This is to help to donate clothes and school supplies to children in Mexico. The fee is $65 and you can get tickets from Joy Engstrom by E-mailing

joy@joyengstrom.com.

                       

Carla Paul distributed flyers about the A Sante benefit for RotaCare Clinic on Nov. 5 at eh Historic Del Monte Building in Sunnyvale.  Tickets are $60 and may be purchased through Carla.  They are also seeking donations for the silent auction, so please email Carla if you can contribute.

 

 

Geri Felix shared information about the challenges of working in the banking industry in these troubled times. 

 

 

Jim Cunningham our FINEMASTER fined everyone who neglected to wear their Rotary pin today $5.

 

 

OUR SPEAKERS:

Jim Cochran introduced our three speakers who are all candidates for the Mountain View Los Altos High School Board Elections-  Susan Sweeley, Phil Failace and Colin Rudolph.

 

Susan Sweeley is an incumbant who has the following goals for the district:

1.) Improve academic achievement at all levels

2.) Focus on programs to address the needs of disadvantaged students

3.) Maintain fiscal integrity.

Colin Rudolphwould be new to the board, and introduced himself and provided some background.  He is interested in investigating:

1.) Partnerships - evaluating existing and seeking out new partnerships

2.) Technology - Insuring it is up to date, providing vocational training to students, productivity tools to educators and community access to the schools.

3.) Acting in the best interest of students, educators and staff.

Phil Fallaice is an incumbent, who emphasized his wealth of experience and depth of service.  He is focused on addressing the achievement gap for all students, and emphasizing individual achievement for all students.
