Introduction of Interact Visitors: Natalie Nguyen-Recent Mitty Highschool Graduate attending UC Davis in the Fall.  Active in the District Interact (largest world wide) Presented the Interact drawing to help support Interact attendance at the RI convention. 

A Rotary Foundation Minute – Gerry, Our Club stands at 62% Pledge commitments with 31% already paid.  Told story of 3 month “Peace Program” supported by the foundation that was worth more than a year worth of other meetings.

Club Announcements:

Giants Game --- Was great, 10 in attendance, tickets right behind home plate.

Perfect Attendance Awards for July –Cupcakes for all- Alan, Sheila, Monique, Hiro, Tom, Chuck, Carla, Phil, Frank, Ernie, Walt, Dennis, Hal and Bob

Rotacare –fundraiser starting in the next few weeks. Pledge is for $5,000 to help them expand their current facilities. A combination of personal gifts and a football pool which Judy has agreed to lead. Board voted last week to direct speaker gifts to the Rotacare expansion fund. Remaining goal is $4,000.

“Three-fer” – Greeter, Thought for the Day and Bulletin – please be as comprehensive as possible; Pres. Anita will send out an annotated agenda in advance of meeting so it hopefully should only take about 20 minutes twice a year (or less if we get new members!)

District Cabinet Meeting – Wednesday, August 3 at the San Jose Doubletree. Meeting will feature a presentation by the Enterprise Leadership Conference which teaches high school juniors how to build a company by tapping into their creativity AND another creative presentation by our District Governor to promote the District’s theme this year – the Transformers!

Upcoming Trainings:

1)      The District is conducting a free membership seminar on August 18, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The agenda includes membership development, retention, visioning, diversity, philosophy and public image. You can register through the District website at www.Rotary5170.org – it’s real easy!

2)      The Rotary Foundation training – “Anything else that you wanted to know but were afraid to ask” – is on Monday, August 22 in San Jose. A flyer is going around with specifics – registration for this is also on-line.

3)      And one last workshop – Future Vision Grants Training – will be offered on August 9 in Hayward and on August 11 in San Jose.

Feedback on Savvy Cellars – Three month trial.  Need to get the word out and invite guest, including spouses and partners.  We are attempting to draw in new members.

Monique requested support for CHAC during the Mountain View Art and Wine Festivle in helping with parking.  September 24 & 25.

Speaker: Judy  Re: Her Trip to Botswana and Zimbawe

Just to the North of South Africa, Judy went with the Cunninghams and 15 others and showed us a video of some of the highlights.  Victoria Falls (Larger than Niagra Falls) and many examples of the wildlife in this beautiful area (Crocodiles, Lions, Elephants, Black Rinos)  Met some wonderful School children and noted all classes taught in “British” English and although a public school, opened with religious song.  A unique experience.  Thank you Judy for Sharing.
