Pledge of Allegiance: was led by Jerylann Mateo

 

Thought for the Day:  was shared by Hiro Kariya

 

Song of the Day:  Phil Armi led us with holiday spirit and we sang 'Jingle Bells'

 

Introduction of Visitors:  A visiting Rotarian, John Nadolski of Sugar Land, Texas who works with Living Water attended with Hal. Hal also introduced his son, Mark, who works at KMVT 15.

 

Presidents Club Members: Anita presented certificates to Steve Nichols  and Tom  Myers.

 

Rotary Foundation Minute: Gerry Felix shared a foundation update, our club is at 97% participation and $7,000 contribution for the year.  Kudos Mountain View Rotary!

 

General Club Announcements:

·         Ken Schwarderer shared that there is one local football team playing in a bowl game yet this year: Cal is playing Texas in the Holiday Bowl on December 28.  Stanford is done playing in 2011 (but Stanford alumni reminded him of the New Year).

 

·         Speaking of Ken, many thanks for taking the helm as the scholarship coordinator for Mountain View High School, Los Altos High School and Mountain View Academy. You rock!

 

·         From Jim Spangler, Community Service chair:  The CSA volunteer project will be held on Wednesday, December 21 from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at CSA. A sign up sheet was distributed or email Jim if you can attend (spanglermortuaries@gmail.com). Also, if anyone has their $115 checks for the Rotacare expansion, please give them to Chuck. These checks should be made out to the Rotary Endowment and are tax-deductible – a good reason to make your gift before year-end.

 

●        The two Rotary proposed resolutions were discussed: 1) Rotary’s Statement on Harassment was moved by many and second by even more, with the majority of the club agreed.  The motion was approved.  2) A new paradigm for Rotary International to attract young adults in the 21-30 range with specific age limitation for Rotaract was discussed and comments shared. The motion was moved by Tom and seconded by Phil, the club majority said no. The motion was not approved.   

 

●        Crab Feed Update – Alan will have tickets for distribution at next Tuesday's meeting, December 20th. 

 

●        Sheila will be sending out membership invoices for the first half of 2012 membership. The bill will include $150 for dues, $150 for facility fees and $50 for each person at the Holiday dinner. 

 

●        A reminder: If anyone is thinking about making a charitable gift of up to $100,000 from your IRA, the clock’s a tickin’ – the law will disappear on January 1, 2012.

 

●        A thank you note was read by Anita from Mt. View Cops and Gobblers committee thanking our club for our monetary and members services for their 2011 event. 

 

Rotary Jeopardy – Bruce Barsi entertained us and the Daily Double appeared and the board is now empty.  Next up, Double Jeopardy!

 

 

SPEAKER INTRO & PRESENTATION:  Shelley Wolfe, Executive Director of KMTV shared her background of 20+ years in the entertainment business and she considers herself an activist  for free speech and human rights. Shelly educated the club about what is a public access station, the various services KMTV provides: not for profits messages, events and missions; workshops to educate the community about camera equipment techniques, how to be a producer, using web tools and so much more. KMTV is expanding their services and desires to hear from the Mountain View community. Today's challenges are funding and finding volunteers to produce programs. Shelley shared you can view KMTV productions on Comcast Channel 15, Government Channel 26, and AT&T Channel 99. Alan asked about the ability to create a commercial to be aired about the club's Crab Feed fundraiser.

 


Next week’s presenter is a surprised. Our greeter/thought for the day and scribe is Twana Karney.  There is no meeting on the 27th, Happy Holidays!! The next meeting will be at the Palo Alto Elks Club , 4249 El Camino, Palo Alto.  We will be in the Bistro Room, up stairs (there is an elevator too).
