Meeting Summary July 9, 2013
President Bruce welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the new Rotary year, at 12:15 in the Adobe Building. He reminded Rotarians of his Call to Action: “Fun Through Service.”
Dennis led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Scott provided some thoughts on tennis, with July 9th being the first Wimbledon back in 1877. Phil led us in “God Bless America.”
President Elect Alan introduced guests for the meeting: Royce Cablayor, real estate agent, and Jessica Nuwaski, from the Mountain View Police Department … both guests of Jerylann.
President Bruce made announcements:
· Dennis was welcomed back.
· Anita was thanked for the wonderful Kick-Out, honoring immediate Past-President Judy. Bruce presented the “Past President Badge” to Judy.
· District Governor Joe Hamilton’s Roast & Toast will be Thursday, July 18th, at Saratoga Springs.
· A sign-up sheet was circulated for the San Jose Giants August 10th game.
· All were invited to join Judy at this Wednesday’s Mountain View Chamber Mixer at Google. Time: 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Location: 1501 Salado Drive, Mountain View.
· The “Rotary Angel Cookie Sign-up List” was circulated.
· There will be a short Endowment Meeting after the lunch.
· A “Significant Person Rotary Email List” sign-up was circulated.
· Reminder: if you cannot attend a meeting or will be brining a guest, let Chuck know by email no later than Monday at noon, prior to the meeting.
Tom gave a “Foundation Minute,” describing his pride in Mountain View Rotary Club always being a 100% Rotary Endowment participation club. He reminded us that we are “this close” to eradicating polio from the world, with endowment donations going towards this project. He announced the first donation for the new Rotary year had been made by President Bruce.
Dave, Funmaster, described his plans for the year, and related some excellent jokes. President Bruce clarified that even though there will be no fines, there will be a President’s Club - $150. Alan volunteered for the President’s Club. Monique announced that CHAC had occupied their new facility, “Miracle on El Camino,” at 590 West El Camino.
Alan introduced our speaker Lisa Huening, of The Shifting Path. Lisa spoke to us about The Shifting Path mission of guiding families through changing elder care, with a focus on the whole family. She shared four critical principles for families as they deal with senior care for a loved one: 1) Your own health 2) A support system 3) Being organized 4) Financial & legal considerations. She talked of ideas for reducing stress.
