President Sandi McDonough rang the bell and called the meeting to order.

 

Fred Storek led us in the pledge to the flag.

 

Greeter, Carla Paul gave us a thought for the day – Visit all the rooms of your existence every day.

 

President Elect Anita Grossman introduced guests and visiting Rotarians.  Jonathan Vaughn from Kejiv, Ukraine was introduced and gave us a little information about his club; the only English speaking club in the country with a high number of expats as members.  He exchanged flags with Sandi.

 

President Sandi read a letter of thanks from Brian Guzman, Mountain View High School, for his scholarship.  He is the fist in his family to attend college and will consider joining a Rotary Club after hearing what our club and its members do for the community.

 

Bert Raphael explained the Rotary Student Exchange program, short term / long term, inbound / outbound.  We are in need of counselors for this program.

 

Walt Joyce made a last announcement regarding our Golf Tournament and BBQ to be held on Friday, June 10.  We have 22 signed up for Golf at Shoreline and 35 for the BBQ at the Adobe Bldg.  Walt and Phil are in charge of these events.

 

PROGRAM

 

Our Community Services Chair, Kim Castro, introduced three recipients of grants from our club as a result of the Crab Feed fundraiser.  

  

Joan Lewis – Friends of Deer Hollow.  $500 to help send students to the Farm.

 

Chris DateoMountain View Police Activities League.  $500 to help with the four year old “Net Game” tennis program.

 

Linda Waud – Partners For New Generations.  $500 to help fund the mentoring program founded by the Los Altos and Mtn. View Rotary Clubs.

 

Next week we will have more community organizations receive their awards and tell us about their organization.
