ROTARY MINUTES 9/17/13

 President elect Alan Goodman opened the meeting at 12:25pm at the Adobe Building in Mountain View.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Jim Cunningham gave 2 thoughts for the day: “The tongue has no bones, but is strong enough to break a heart, so be careful with your words.”, and “Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat.”

Phil Armi then called for singing “God Bless America.”

Judy Hannemann introduced her guest, Jan Carey.

Twana Karney re-introduced the District Underwear Program for the homeless.

Tori Corbett announced next week’s meeting will be held at Scott’s on Castro at 5pm in sport attire.

1.   Friday, September 20^{th from 5-7pm}-CHAC grand opening of their new building, 590 W. El Camino Real

2.   October 17-Avenues of Service for board members at the San Jose Doubletree

3.   October 22-Regular lunch meeting at Moffett Field. Colonel Butow will host a tour. Details to follow.

5.   April 10, 2014-Rotocare to celebrate the 25^th anniversary

6.   June 13^th-Mountain View Golf Tournament and Barbeque

Tom Myers announced information concerning the Community Services Agency breakfast on Friday, September 20^th honoring community leaders.

Fine Master Dave Cole fined GerylAnn Mateo $50 for her birthday, and Tori Corbett $51 for hers. For Cal’s gallant stand against Ohio State, Ken Schwaderer was fined $50, and Dave Cole was happy to donate for a positive blood test. Go Dave!

Program: Judy Hannemann introduced our speaker for the day, Betsy Collard, founder of Children Concern Foundation. This foundation is an orphanage in Tanzania that provides a lovely home for the care and education of 36 orphaned and vulnerable children, ages 4-16. CCF is a registered Tanzanian NGO. It receives no government funds and depends entirely upon donations from visitors and friends. More information can be obtained from
